“Very nice overnight stay at the Novotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Really enjoyed the overnight stay at the Novotel. Location of the hotel was good so central everything in the CBD. It was great they upgraded us to an executive suite. Awesome customer service to the staff who made us feel so welcome and breakfast was very nice. I would definitely stay here next time I visit Melbourne.

Having not stayed here for awhile, it was disappointing to experience how the service and the standards have dropped. On arrival there was no offer of help from the porter on duty with my bags ... a large one plus a smaller one. On arrival at the front desk to check in, there was no longer a warm welcome and the receptionist never looked up but kept typing - there was once again no offer of help with my bags. Housekeeping standards have certainly dropped! Bed not made in the mornings - but duvet pulled up over crumpled sheets. Flannels and tissues in the bathroom were never replaced at all during my stay. I would be out all day on business and at least three times came back to the hotel around 4.30pm and my room was still un - serviced. The extensive drilling from the redevelopment of ' Australia on Collins ' is not the hotel's fault; however the Hotel should have conveyed this message to its suppliers so customers could make the choice whether to stay or make alternative arrangements.

Room Tip: Don't stay here while the Construction is going on

I've stayed here before a few times but unfortunately Novotel Melbourne on Collins has gone downhill quicker than a runaway tram.

The most pressing problem is the loud construction that starts just around breakfast time ( would be very frustrating if you wanted a sleep in!). This reverberates all through the Breakfast area meaning your Bacon and Eggs comes with free turbulence.

I do appreciate the manager writes a personal letter to each guest but the letter is in the room and hence you only find out once you've arrived ( and presumably already paid). There should be discount rates for all guest during this period due to the inconvenience caused.

I found service poor with trays from outside my room remaining 24 hours, laundry service was late and customer service not very attentive.

The pool and spa is now not with external light (its being blocked out due to construction) which makes it not very pleasant. The spa area was also not very clean. The gym is really a poor attempt and for any serious weight-lifter there would be some frustration at the limited machines available. I do agree there are some running machines.

This hotel has the ongoing issue of access- you need to get to the 6th floor for reception and then walk to another lift to get to your floor. Once you're on your floor, its always seems a long walk to your room.

Sorry to say I won't be back. I've stayed at many hotels and this probably is one of the lowest reviews i've given.

The hotel has been recently renovated, but many rooms overlook an ongoing reconstruction zone that produces quite a bit of noise during the day. Short walking distance to many tourist sites and downtown shopping. Excellent breakfast buffet. Join the loyalty scheme to enjoy free Wi-Fi. Globus Tour selection.

Room Tip: Any room not facing the construction zone.

Perhaps I have higher expectations of Novotel but I've had much better. Aside from it being in a construction zone which isn't the fault of the hotel the rooms are quite hit and miss. There are no silver locks or deadlocks on the door. I recently had a situation where the concierge came into my room accidentally. If I had of had the lock on the door that wouldn't have happened. Women hate 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner yet that's all the Novotel have to offer. On top of that they don't even provide skin moisturizer in the bathroom and we all know how dry their soap makes your skin. Room service is expensive. I've stayed here 3 times in the last 6mths. I won't be rushing back.

Stayed recently, room looked like it had been fairly recently renovated, fine for me as i was on business.
Good location close to everything you need.
MCG is about 10/15 min walk.

Bar area ok, breakfast was very busy with school kids which proved a challenge just to get some basics!

However the noise from the construction site can only be described as terrifying!
The heavy industrial machinary they are using feels like the place is going to collapse! If you want to sleep past 8am go somewhere else.

Fine for business but i wouldn't stay if i were paying with my own money.

clean room. good showers and comfortable bed. room service too expensive. no balcony so if your a smoker quite annoying to go outside downs stairs 4 floors but Some one thought it was a good idea to smoke in their room. we could smell it next thing had to evacuate as the smoke detectors were set off. overall not too bad for the price.
