“Great Location but bring a torch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

The location couldn't be better for central melbourne, short walk to flinders st / fed square and right in the middle of the shopping district.
The service was friendly, breakfast was good and the room decor was nice. Bathroom was typical novotel - not overly large but modern and well functional.
The window actually looked out over the Australian Arcade shopping centre which was interesting but not quite as light as straight to outside.
The biggest downside to the room was the lighting - there were a total of TWO downlights for the whole room - one was over the door in the hall and hte other was right in front of the tv. 1 desk light nearby the tv and 2 SMALL reading lights and that was it. The room was very gloomy and it was actually hard to unpack! Now I don't need bright lights but enough to unpack your bag or read a book not being under a reading light would be nice.

Dear geeijo

Thank you for taking the time to write your review about the hotel. Its great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. We have recently finished our upgrade to our accommmodation rooms and restaurant/foyer area and have recieved a lot of positive feedback.

We have had some comments in regards to the lighting in our rooms and are currently in the process of addressing this issue and should have this fixed shortly.

My team and I look forward to welcoming you back to the Novotel Melbourne on Collins.

kind regards
Hayden Hughes

Handy to all of the CBD to South Bank and to Flinders Station. Helpful staff and great conference facilities. Maybe a little pricey if paying full price. Spacious room and free internet in foyer but often queue waiting.

This hotel is located in the centre of the city with walking distance from Flinders St Station and major attractions. The hotel lobby is located not on the ground floor but a few floors up from ground level. It is a bit annoying in the morning when you need to take 2 lifts to get to street level. The premier room i had faced inward into the shopping centre with no natural light coming into the room. Also getting to the room was like going throigh a rabbit warren. Room wifi is expensive. Lobby service could also be improved. The good part of the stay was the excellent buffet breakfast.

I have recently stayed in Sydney on 3 different occasions. I felt the Novotal position was excellent and really enjoyed browsing the shops and arcades. It would be its biggest selling point. However, the room airconditioner was much harder to operate than other hotels and no possibility of opening windows like all the hotels in Sydney. This is important for older women. Also only 2 black teabags provided!!! Not good enough. No moisturiser and the other 2 bottles were not clearly marked shampoo or conditioner or was one of them shower gel??? Once in the shower with no glasses on, I couldn't tell. Some work being done at 2am kept me awake, but overall the stay was good - not worth $233 though. The front desk boys were very charming!

Excellent location in the heart of Melbourne, the hotel looks refurbished and quite impressive initially. The staff are polite; so everything looks professional and vacuuming not really good and cleaned by the housekeeping 3 people staying the room but only give two bath towels or the quality of laundry services, replenishing of coffee & tea non-existent not even a small biscuit. The Concierge desk on Collins too many staff too busy talking with themselves rather then helping guests with luggage to help so I decided to carry them myself Great location looks professional but by the time you have spent a days it is not has professional has it's seems.

We stayed here while visiting Melbourne to see PINK in concert and picked this spot as it was central located as exactly depicted onljne. We were not disappointed, large large room with pull out for our son to sleep on, only downfall was such massive room and only a queen bed! This room needs a King oh and so do we haha, spoilt we are. We were able to walk everywhere and easy to reach shopping, restaurants, Rod Laver and art gallery the list goes on. We didn't use any of the facilities nor restaurants as there is so much to chose from in this great city, so cannot comment there, but location location location and great rooms and beds, perfect !
