“Great location and value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We live in melbourne but love to come to this hotel especially if you are going to the football or local sports. Easy walk into town and across the road from the park. Fantastic if you arrive on Saturday afternoon as there is a bit of free overnight parking on the street. Rooms are very clean and although not especially big really fantastic value for a centre city stay. Can't fault anything at all.

The newly refurbished rooms at the Mercure are very good. The bed was very comfortable. We had a 'privilege' room which included a few little extras like a balcony overlooking the gardens, a Nespresso coffeemaker, T2 teabags, bottle of Fiji water, bathrobes and slippers etc. Customer service was good, gladly gave us a late checkout. We will definitely stay again.

Terrific location if wanting to attend MCG, Tennis Centre and AAMI Park (as we did).
Pros:
Great view from balcony
Fantastic location
Ample choices on buffet menu
Nice décor in rooms, particularly the bedheads with their Melbourne scene themes
Comfy bed and pillows
Efficient check in and check out
Lack of noise from street

Cons:
Nowhere to hang wet towels or place personal items in bathroom
Nothing to sit on to enjoy views from balcony
Extremely uncomfortable couch
Coffee cups/milk frother for coffee machine not cleaned/replaced when room was serviced
Toiletries not replaced daily (we ran out of soap)
Never received magazines that were quoted as part of the privilege package

Overall a nice enough hotel though I think we perhaps could have got better value money elsewhere. It was the location that sold it to us, and we were delighted with that aspect of it and the beautiful outlook over the Treasury Gardens.

The hotel staff were courteous and efficient the rooms are clean and well appointed. The hotel is well located and close to where I work when visiting Melbourne and close to many Melbourne restaurants . It is a mid range hotel clean ,well appointed and comfortable for the price point. I would recommend the hotel to others.

We stayed here to be close to Rod Laver Arena for a Bruce Springsteen Concert. The staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms have recently been refurbished and are still in very good condition. Good size rooms but a but found it a bit dusty. We ate here for both dinner and breakfast and were pleased with the food quality. The service at dinner was a little slow but we got to the concert on time.

Have stayed here before and no doubt will again.

Have just spent 2 nights staying at this hotel. I had a room on the sixth floor with garden views. It was not a large room and the bathroom was very small. But it did have everything that you needed. The curtains have good blockout and you can hardly hear any road noise. The beds are also comfortable. A slight hiccup in booking in was soon rectified and I received a nice delicious treat to compensate. The restaurant whilst not having a very large menu has great meals. The customer service from the bar staff was amazing, these little things go a long way. The breakfast has also been revamped and offered a wide variety of choices.

Trams are outside the door and the location on the edge of the CBD does not give you that hemmed in feeling.

The hotel is exceptionally well located being on the free tram route to explore Melbourne and close the sports precinct. Staff are welcoming and hekpful. But the accommodation was disappointing. We stayed in a ":Privilege Room ", the best they have, but it was small, with an uncomfortable bed, a more uncomfortable couch and perhaps the smallest ensuite I have seen in a city hotel for long time. It also annoys us that although hotels encourage you to be environmentally friendly by uing towelling for a few days, they often provide at best, one drying rack and shower stall which constantly leaks water on the ensuite floor saturating the floor mat.

Accommodation value can't be questionned for an inner city hotel - except for breakfast - $25 per person is a bit rich for luke warm bacon solid poached eggs and automatic machine coffee with poor quality beans , especially when you can go to a cafe nearby for the same breakfast, but freshly cooked (not bain marie) with proper espresso coffee for half that price.
