“Nice Place but . . .”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2012

There's nothing wrong with this place but it's not what we had in mind. We were looking for something more boutique-y and this is just no-nonsense, plain vanilla, average okay place to stay. If you want to be in the middle of the artsy scene of Melbourne, keep looking. Oh, and they charge an arm and a leg for WiFi but the great little restaurant next door offers it for free.

We had a studio for 3 nights and it was perfect for our needs. It was small but had everything we needed. I booked then cancelled and rebooked when the rate went down. It had enough crockery etc for 2 people, including a teapot and sugar bowl! We had a microwave and full size fridge which was great. We didn't touch the minibar as it was as usual very expensive. The bathroom was well equipped and the room was kept clean. The reception staff were very willing to help. The hotel is in a great area for food and drinking, it was a short walk to the free tram but it's a small city and easily walked.

Room Tip: I always ask for a quiet room, you don't always get a view but if you're out all day that do...

A nice apartment, good size & facilities.
Quiet area, lack of cafes/bars/restaurants within the surrounding street, over the weekend.
Friendly staff, not a good bed, with a queen matress on top of a double bed base, causing the
sides to flop over the edge of the bed.

The team at Medina Grand Melbourne are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your feedback.

In relation to the restaurants, we have Hardward Lane (one of Melbournes busiest eateries) only 2 minutes walk from our front door and Little Bourke Street is home to Melbourne's famous China Town. For more special occaisions we are are only minutes walk from Movida and Vue Du Monde. The team at Medina Grand Melbourne would be delighted to direct you to any of these restaurants. Closer to home, we have a fantastic restaurant within the building, QSR which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday.

At Medina Grand Melbourne we have King Size Beds and Queen Size Beds and are investigating how there could have ever been a miss matched bed. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally to discuss this matter further.

Again we thank you for your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Medina Grand Melbourne when you are next in Melbourne.

Kind regards

As a regular guest at this property, I reviewed the Medina Grand last July and commented on the lack of room service breakfast. The manager commented on Tripadvisor after my review that this would be available with the opening of their new restaurant.

And so it was, on my last stay there in early February 2012. I can heartily recommend their breakfast "fry up" which had perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, mushrooms, spinach (around $18). For room service dinner, I enjoyed their eye fillet with large chunky chips, well seasoned (around $35). Nothing like a delicious room service dinner after a tiring flight, and a hearty breakfast to pep one up for the day's business meetings ahead!

Room Tip: Avoid the tiny studio rooms!

Great location, only a few steps from tram stop. - Room (studio) looked good at first, later I hurt myself several times when stepping into the batchroom (sharp edges at the carpet(!)) and ripped my jacket at sharp edges at the door. Eating table plus desk, luxury! Kitchenette which you only can use when you move all the hotel stuff into the cupboard (which is then full) . - Never heard of before they charged a deposite of 600 Dollars! - Internet 25 Dollars per 24 hours but it's slowed down and you cannot, under any cicumstance, use it for professional work like VPN or citrix access. This is a complete no-go for this hotel for me and I cancelled all future business visits here.

Room Tip: Don't go to 6th floor or you wake up early in the morning and late night from the threadmill und...

Thankyou for your feedback regarding your recent stay at Medina Grand Melbourne..

We appreciate the time you have taken to provide us with your feedback. At Medina Grand Melbourne we have One, Two and Three Bedroom Apartments in addition to the Studio Rooms. The larger apartments are equipped with large full function kitchens. In relation to the points you have raised regarding the internet, we have raised the cost issue with our service provider who has arranged some cheaper options for multiple nights stay.

I would like to thank you providing this feedback and if you would like to discuss this in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at the hotel.

This is my second time staying at Medina Grand Melbourne within the last 12 months and it definitely feels like a second home to us. Once again I cannot find fault.

This time as a return guest we received a "Complimentary Upgrade" to a Premier apartment. The team at reception are always very friendly and happy to go "above and beyond" to assist in any way they can always with a smile.

The new restaurant just off reception has a great menu and are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I have to say we spent quite a bit of time relaxing there and chatting to the staff, whilst having dinner and drinks.

Medina Grand Melbourne, keep up the Great work, we can't wait to come back!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a Premier room! These rooms are on the higher floors and have city views.

I stayed with friends in a 2 Bedroom Premium apartment on the top floor on the New Years weekend. In the apartment, the living/dining room was fairly spacious but the kitchen was quite small but it did have all the self catering facilities like oven/dishwasher etc. The bedrooms were relatively small (I couldnt lay down my suitcase nxt to the bed on either side i.e. only enough room to walk around it) but nice/comfortable and had their own ensuite bathrooms which were a good size. The apartment did have a balcony but no outdoor furniture - it wasnt for the faint hearted either - it looked like it was added on - their is a gap between the side of the building and the balcony - we had views to the North of the city - mostly looked onto the top of other surrounding buildings so you just saw air con units - not really pleasant - I recommend requesting a room facing Queen St - you would have seen the NYE fireworks then! The location is quite good - an IGA supermarket as well as 7/11 down the rd as well as Victoria Markets - a 24hr McDonalds was just around the corner plus its an easy 10 min walk down to Flinders St/Southbank. The cafe nxt door which you can order room service from looked very popular - always busy - I ordered a pizza/dessert via room service + gave it the thumbs up.

Room Tip: Request a room facing Queen St.
