“Great location, slightly tired furnishings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2010

The central location just across from Federation Square was great; it's very easy to walk to all the main city sites, hop on a tram or get a train from Flinders Street just a few minutes down the road. There are also some very good restaurants within a few minutes walk. Our two-bedroomed apartment had a view of office buildings, but was quite pleasant. The kitchen was well equipped although the dishwasher (quite new) was temperamental and didn't seem to wash properly. There were two TVs, both old style and although there was Foxtel my son was disappointed no digital channels were available. The bedroom with the ensuite, larger wardrobe and safe appeared to have a smaller bed than the room with no ensuite so our son enjoyed the luxury and took the smaller bed. The bathrooms were clean and functional although the fittings were quite old. Same with the lounge furniture, rather tired-looking and dated. I didn't check the facilities listing properly and was expecting to find a pool because the website shows several pictures of a nice pool on the page for this location. Apparently guests can use the pool at another Medina 6 blocks away, but this one only has a gymnasium. The reception staff were very friendly and efficient and for accommodation in walking-distance of everything this is a very good place.

Travelling with my wife we booked into the Medina at the last minute, we had no idea what to expect. We were delighted with the standard of accommodation.

The room was basically a self contained apartment with a very high finish, furnishings and equipment. Separate living room/kitchen. Only compliant with the room was that, even though we were on the 12th floor we could still hear the traffic below. But this was only a small annoyance.

There was a swimming pool and fitness centre located on the roof with stunning views of the city. Well located to the city centre and directly across from the Crown casino.

Overall this was a great hotel/apartment to stay in and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

we have stayed in the medina flinders on 5 or 6 occasions, the extra space and kitchen facilities make it perfect for families and longer stays. great views out over the yarra and botanical gardens from all rooms that i have stayed in. noise is normal for CBD location. great location with walking distance from all of melbournes city delights - make sure you go for breakfast at The European!

Like other clients we found the apartment spacious and clean, apart from 2 used hankies found in the wardrobe. I of us stayed the thurs night and on friday morning housekeeping came to service the apartment. We declined as we had only just arrived the friday morning. on saturday 2 towels (there were 4 of us) were left on the sofa by housekeeping but no cleaning took place. Granted when we asked for more towels they were delivered and they vacuumed when asked. On sunday, same thing just towels left. Staff were friendly and helpful but totally let down by noise that carried on throughout the night of repeated garbage collections particularly bottles. we had the view down the alleyway which adjoined the outside floor covered in graffiti so the person staying thurs didn't get any sleep thinking she was going to be broken into as people obviously get on the roof adjacent to our balcony (!) The balcony was a concrete pad about 4 ft by 1ft, again overlooking a dirty, noisy, laneway. this was not worth $300 a night. If you have already booked into this hotel do not consider room 5 or anything on the lower floors as you will not get any sleep with the outside noise. I had made the booking for my friends and was thoroughly embarrassed with my choice.

I've stayed in the serviced apartments for four days, it is very comfortable & clean, it is located in CBD, easily to go shopping and sightseeing.

My studio room is not located in main building, it takes several minutes to walk to another old block, there is no left, hopefully my room is located in second floor, otherwise, it is difficult to bring my heavy luggage to place in my room!!

The room is large and clean, the kitchen is fully furnished, including oven, washing machine, washing dish machine, iron ect... This service apartment is the ideal place for a long stay.

My husband and I booked into the Medina Executive after flying back to Melbourne from a short trip to Sydney. A week earlier we had stayed at the Vibe Savoy, which we liked. But we really enjoyed the Medina. It had everything we needed, kitchen with coffee and milk, washer/dryer, stereo with ipod dock, comfortable bed and a balcony. Everything was clean, modern and cozy. We had breakfast included which was well worth it. The restaurant was right next door and food was very good and service too. Overall, we just liked the feeling of this place. We're coming back next year for a wedding and will recommend it to the wedding guests who are traveling to Melbourne.

We were seeing a show at Rod Laver arena so wanted something close by. Hotel was in an excellent location as it took us just 10 or so minutes to walk there. There was also the option of taking the tram which is pretty much at your door step.
We were impressed with the room upon entry, with it's generous living area, kitchen/dining and the large floor to ceiling windows which adds to the spacious feeling.

HOWEVER , opening the drapes revealed views of an alley way , an office building within a few metres (luckily it was a weekend and the office was empty), and a rooftop of some tired looking building with lots of graffiti. ewwww!
I would have given the 'room '& 'value for money' a higher rating but the view just completely let us down, even though we didn't stay inside much.
Overall, hotel was pretty good with nice friendly staff. It's modern & clean, but a little sterile & lacks vibrance. Good location. Probably won't stay again.
