“Loads of fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

A few of the galleries were closed on our visit, as was the IMAX, which was disappointing. However, there is still loads to see, including dinosaurs and a huge collection of gems and rocks, including bits of Mars and a rock with crystals over 4 billion years old. Use your student ID if you have one to get free admission!

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

We went to the Melbourne Museum on our last day on our short break to Melbourne. We only had a couple of hours in there but it was fabulous.

The history of Melbourne section is great seeing all old posters and archived footage on film in the small theatrette. And of course Phar Lap is housed here what an amazing horse and story the articles and items that are alongside him are all worth looking at.

The weird and wonderful human display including psych jackets etc from mental hospitals really held our attention your mind boggles at the thought.

There are dinosaurs fossils antique guns so many different things to look at it was brilliant even tho we didn't have a lot of time.

If taking kids a pram is certainly required as its a large museum and they will get bored being dragged around. (We are past the small kid stage)

It's really cheap to get and you could easily spend a whole day there.
