We pulled up in my husband's battered old ute (his work vehicle) and we told that deliveries were around the back. OK, we weren't in your 'typical' vehicle, but still.

We were upgraded to a suite which was lovely, if a little tired. The bed was the best bit. I loved the bed so much I asked where they were made. Oh I forgot the bathroom, tha bathroom, the bathroom, the bathroom. Amazing, large, marble, the works.

Breakfast was better than most hotel breakfasts. Location for us was great as we were going to the theatre. Pool was nice.

The staff are a little snooty.

I stayed at the Park Deluxe Spa room using the Celebration Package.

Pros?
- There is a TV in the bathroom.
- VERY comfortable.
- Fantastic view.
- Room service food comes with its own table, clean cutlery and napkins, and more. Very enjoyable.
- All the staff there were really friendly.

Cons?
- The TV in the bathroom malfunctioned after about an hour and no channels could be viewed.
- The Church Bell outside was very noisy considering I requested a quiet room.
- The Celebration Package was supposed to come with Champagne and Chocolates which the hotel website specified would be waiting for us in our room when we got in there. Even the front desk said they were waiting for us in our room when we checked in, so I can't believe it wasn't there when we walked into our room a few minutes later. There was no apology or compensation for this.
- We requested a wedding reception information pamphlet when we checked in, which they did not have at the time, so they said they would definitely get one ready for me at check-out. When I checked out and asked for it, they had no idea what I was talking about.
- The spa at the time was under renovation so it couldn't be used. The pool itself was not heated enough, it was too cold, and if you want some privacy while you're in the pool, be aware that people in the gym can easily see you through the glass walls.
- As I am a Platinum Member, I qualify for points for staying at the hotel which should be given to me within 2 weeks of me staying there. It took over a month for me to receive those points, and I had to call to complain to get it done.

The price of the rooms are VERY expensive, so the standards of course are high, and although the room was very nice, there were several problems with our stay. It was ridiculous that they said that champagne was waiting in my room and that the wedding pamphlet I requested would be waiting for us when we checked out when neither of these things happened. There's no point appearing to be efficient by saying that something has or will be done when it has not or will not.

  • Liked — Really luxurious, comfortable rooms
  • Disliked — Empty promises, problems that shouldn't have occurred, bad swimming pool.

The room is very beautifully decorated. Although still in the heart of Melbourne, you might need to jump on the tram for a short ride to the busy shopping area. Due to its location, the hotel is quiet with not many activities going on, could be quite boring for some people. It is right next to one of the most beautiful church of Melbourne and walking distance to Parliament house and Fitzroy garden! (The center of Melbourne is quite small and public transportation is very good so don't let the Park Hyatt location be one of your concerns). But if you like a more vibrant place to stay, move closer to the center.

I can't praise this wonderful hotel highly enough. From the moment we arrived until we left we were made to feel very special by all the friendly and efficient staff. In fact, if I think about it, the excellent service started at the time of booking, when we had some problems which were resolved quicky over the phone.

Our room was huge and looked out over the tennis court, with fantastic views of the G and the Rod Laver. We could even see the Bay on a clear day. The beds were comfortable and there was a small armchair and sofa which were excellent for lounging.

The housekeeping staff were excellent and the room was serviced to a high standard every day.

We didn't eat in the hotel but had a drink one afternoon in the bar - again excellent service and a lovely place to sit and read the papers. We were a bit doubtful about the bar which looks garishly decorated on the website, but it works!

The hotel is a little bit out of the way at the top of Collins Street so is nice and quiet, but everywhere in the CBD is in walking distance and there is a tram stop and a cab rank outside. It is also set off the road, adding to the exclusive feel.

My only minor complaint is parking - quite expensive - however don't even think about parking outside on the street unless you are super disciplined - we were literally 2 minutes late and had a ticket. After that we used the valet service - cheaper than another ticket!

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
