“Great boutique city hotel with great service and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We stayed here one night for our anniversary. The service at check in was great and although they couldn't upgrade us (we didn't ask but the guy looked for us when we checked in), we did get some free bubbles and chocolates which were lovely. The room was nice - not overly big but I don't care about that anyway.

Only complaints are the noisy air con (like most hotels) and the shower was not very good. It had a rain shower attachment but the pressure was not strong enough.

I would stay here again.

Dear guest,

Congratulations on your recent anniversary. I apologise that we were unable to upgrade you but it is good to hear that you appreciated the bubbles and chocolates!

I am sorry to hear that the shower pressure was not strong enough for you. This is an issue which we try to keep on top of.

We hope this does not deter you from returning in the future.

Best wishes,

Anne Marie Lennon
General Manager.

We had a very spacious junior suite for two nights. The room was clean and very nice - unfortunately there is no real view outside since the buildings next to Lindrum hotel are too close. Other than that everything was fine. We did not have breakfast in the hotel since there are many nice locations (e.g. cumulus or chin chin) just around the corner. You can just leave your car in the next door public parking since most tourist spots are in walking distance or can be reached by public transport.

One of the smaller hotels in Melbourne, but perfectly located and very accommodating staff. The hotel is being renovated at present, but we didn't hear a thing. It's near a park where we you can watch possums in the evenings. Nice view from the room, quite despite the traffic below.

Don’t stay here for the view: most of the rooms have none and we couldn’t even see the sky from ours! The hotel is quite luxurious but didn’t really work for us. We arrived at about 22.00 and despite having luggage and me being on a crutch had no offer of help with the cases. Our room was spacious and well equipped but only had one comfortable chair. Breakfast was ordinary: we had to ask for the butter to be topped up on each morning and when they did this it was delivered to the Buffet rather than bringing some to our table. The location was good as a base for exploring Melbourne.

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the tie to comment on your recent stay at Hotel Lindrum.

I apologise that you had such a disappointing experience. I am so disappointed to learn that no-one offered you assistance with your luggage particularly as you were travelling with a crutch. Not the warm welcome that you should have received.

Breakfast service also clearly let us down with very little attention to detail and care demonstrated.

Once again I sincerely apologise.

Best wishes,

Hotel Lindrum is a small, wonderful boutique hotel located at the end of the CBD block on the corner of Spring and Flinders St. It's right next to trams, train stations, the restaurants of Flinders Lane and a brisk walk to all the sports venues.

First up, there is no 'parking area' for reception. You have to park in Wilson next door and show your ticket to the concierge for a discount voucher which you use on exit. Make sure you do this, otherwise its $105 for one night. We paid $16 with the discount ticket. Plenty of spots on a Thursday night.

The Hotel announces itself with the kind of front door Henry VIII would have used. Once you have leaned your shoulder on it and it grudgingly swings open, you're in a charming, global-villagey foyer with dining area, two smallish bars with gas fire and Walter Lindrum's billiard table to complete the atmosphere. It's lovely, and the staff are happy to point out the hotel's intriguing history while making sure you have everything you need.

We had room 316, a junior suite at the back of the hotel. This looks at another building, but it's quiet and well-served with natural light. The 'suite' is really a large room with a comfy daybed sofa, two televisions, a good bathroom complete with bath, and simply the best king size bed I've ever slept in my whole life. You just float on it in a state of bliss and all your aches disappear. The beds are brand new, apparently, so money well spent I would say.

Room is solid and quiet at the end of the passage. The decor is relaxing and eastern-style with plenty of dark wood furniture and flooring. I like the little touches like luxury toiletries, very soft plush robes, free papers and best of all, good free fast broadband. Easy to connect and works well. A rarity these days. It's things like this that make the Lindrum special. The staff are also proud of their hotel.

We will be back, regularly.

Room Tip: 316 and 315 are at the back of the hotel, and is very quiet away from the trams and traffic. They al...
