Hotel Lindrum is a small, wonderful boutique hotel located at the end of the CBD block on the corner of Spring and Flinders St. It's right next to trams, train stations, the restaurants of Flinders Lane and a brisk walk to all the sports venues.
First up, there is no 'parking area' for reception. You have to park in Wilson next door and show your ticket to the concierge for a discount voucher which you use on exit. Make sure you do this, otherwise its $105 for one night. We paid $16 with the discount ticket. Plenty of spots on a Thursday night.
The Hotel announces itself with the kind of front door Henry VIII would have used. Once you have leaned your shoulder on it and it grudgingly swings open, you're in a charming, global-villagey foyer with dining area, two smallish bars with gas fire and Walter Lindrum's billiard table to complete the atmosphere. It's lovely, and the staff are happy to point out the hotel's intriguing history while making sure you have everything you need.
We had room 316, a junior suite at the back of the hotel. This looks at another building, but it's quiet and well-served with natural light. The 'suite' is really a large room with a comfy daybed sofa, two televisions, a good bathroom complete with bath, and simply the best king size bed I've ever slept in my whole life. You just float on it in a state of bliss and all your aches disappear. The beds are brand new, apparently, so money well spent I would say.
Room is solid and quiet at the end of the passage. The decor is relaxing and eastern-style with plenty of dark wood furniture and flooring. I like the little touches like luxury toiletries, very soft plush robes, free papers and best of all, good free fast broadband. Easy to connect and works well. A rarity these days. It's things like this that make the Lindrum special. The staff are also proud of their hotel.
We will be back, regularly.
