“Good hotel but not as expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

It's a good hotel but not as expected for his category and the standard of hotels of the same chain. Indeed little differences can be noticed for example for the amenities in the bathroom. The same hotel in Sydney has Elemis products while in Melbourne are not available. The breakfast was good but not excellent as I expected. The staff is very kind but not sufficient when it comes to make an order (for example a coffee or tea). This delay the service. The espresso coffee is good. There is a lack of nuts and the selection of cereals is very limited. The rest is within the standard for the category of this hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floor for a good night sleep

Dear DERUBS,

Thank you for taking the time to share your review, we sincerely appreciate all the feedback of all our guests. It is indeed the little things that make an experience memorable and in regards to bathroom amenities, all InterContinentals are now introducing a new line of quality products from Agraria, a San Francisco based brand. They are excellent quality and will be replacing Elemis in all hotels over the coming months. As you would know consistency is a stalwart of the InterContinental experience and we hope you enjoyed this new offering.

In all areas quality is of the highest importance to us and as such all tea and coffee is made to order by an experienced barista which in busy periods can result in a slight delay. Regarding breakfast service, I will review the selection of cereals. Thank you again for your considered feedback and I hope I have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

Kind regards,
Joerg T. Boeckeler

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed for three nights in mid January. We are ambassadors and were upgraded to an Executive King Room which had an internal furnished balcony. Many of the rooms in the Rialto face into the atrium so don't get a lot of natural light, but this does provide a very nice feel to the hotel. You feel like you are staying in a heritage listed building that has history.

The room was a reasonable size, the bathroom was nicely appointed, however on arrival I realised I had forgotten to request a room with a tub so contacted the concierge to ask whether there was a room available with a bath. Unfortunately there wasn't but he did try to find one for me.

We were offered access to the Club Lounge (for a fee) which we accepted and this allowed us to enjoy full buffet breakfast either in the restaurant or the Club Lounge. We chose to eat breakfast in the restaurant. The breakfast was what you would expect in a hotel like this and quite extensive. The buffet was extensive and there was an egg station where the chef cooked omelettes, poached or boiled eggs. Very good Espresso coffee was included with the buffet. We very much enjoyed the wine and canapés offered in the Club lounge of an evening before heading off to dinner. The quality of all the offerings in the Club lounge were of a five star standard.

The service from the hotel staff was very professional and attentive but not intrusive.

Room Tip: We didn't see the external rooms but both times I have stayed here have had the atrium rooms and...

We had 2 rooms for 5 days over Xmas and loved it. The heritage quality of the property makes up for any lack of views, and adds a great ambience and sense of quietness. Breakfast and dining is a pleasure and access to Melbourne's trams, shopping, Sth Bank and other areas is great. Nice gym and pool beside the herb garden (great initiative and i gather there are bee hives on another roof!). Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. A delightful stay that we will be repeating.

Dear Frank H,

I am so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and I thank you for taking the time to share your review. There are indeed beehives on our roof from which we harvest our own honey. You must sample our Honey Chocolate next time you stay! I look forward to welcoming you back.

From the moment We checked in I just knew this hotel was special. We stayed 4 nights and we enjoyed every moment!

The staff in this hotel are exceptional - friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them.
The hotel is just a short walk from the CBD and within walking distance of Southbank. Trams also run past the front of the hotel and taxis are plentiful so getting to a particular destination
Is not an issue.

The rooms are well appointed and quiet and very clean. A really great selection of teas are available in the room . The beds are comfortable. The architecture of the hotel is really interesting and it was lovely to see how this building has been converted to a great hotel.
We had a club room and so we ate breakfast in the club . The breakfast buffet choice was not extensive but the quality of food was good. The club is also very cosy and so breakfast was really notable.

We also tried the evening drinks in the club. We were supplied with the Chefs tasting plate which was always interesting and imaginative. The chef was also friendly and appeared to enjoy explaining his creations to guests. It is always nice when you meet staff who are obviously happy in their work!

This hotel was perfect for me and I would stay here again. I can't say much more about the hotel except "try it".

We stayed here for two nights and loved it. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the staff very friendly. Perfect location for shopping, restaurants and he Crown entertainment complex is in easy walking distance. The only issue we had was the fact that you cannot see outside and let's face it in Melbourne you never know what to expect with the weather, therefore it was difficult to know what to wear!

Spent 5 nights at the hotel recently with partner and son (aged 6). Nothing was too much trouble fore the excellent and friendly staff.

Pool was very popular with my son.

Only grievance would be that the sauna was incredibly slow to heat up and seemed to be on some kind of energy saving switch.

Will be back next time I'm in Melbourne

The Interconti is located in the downtown of Melbourne. The romm is had was in the executive floor and had a view in the inner courtyard. It was a very nice choice.
The concierge was very helfpful with booking the shuttle to the airport.
