“Unforgettable stay..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Rooms are bigger than a standard hotel rooms and well equipped. Good location & very clean.
Staff;Front Desk and specially at the restaurant and Concierce (Jacob!) VERY service minded and friendly. Interesting and historical building...

Room Tip: When you enter from the main entrance (Collins),the rooms on your right hand side are little higher...

It's a beautiful property close to the CBD and South Bank. Concierge was very helpful and the best was the Market Lane bar on the lobby floor. Stayed at this hotel twice in September and found myself sipping some decent whiskies downstairs. It can add up but better than going to a whiskey bar that is over crowded and noisy.
Something I found peculiar though was that my 3G mobile with tethering and 4G mobile internet didn't work in the rooms every now and then, but worked fine outside of the room or hotel. It was quite frustrating.

Second stay here, beautiful property. Arrived as Royal Ambassadors our suite wasn't ready at 1pm and would not be ready until 5pm, our check in via the Club was interesting with a very nervous Reception who went from greeting us as Mr & Mrs to Doctor to Guys. We were offered a standard room for the interim, yes that is very good, however they did know we were coming! Better organisation could have saved their staff extra duties of making up two rooms etc and our disappointment.

Due to the hotel being close or full occupancy for Spring Racing we were fortunate to be upgraded to Suite 602, amazing, it has it's own private outdoor terrace of around 30sqm, a rarity! Very impressed with the suite. There were just a few falling downs this stay. It took a request sugar over ten minutes to arrive, venturing out to retrieve our own sugar, we were intercepted by floor staff who relayed another 5 minutes as if that was acceptable as they "were busy".

Room service for our meal was fast, the riggotoni average, delicious rocket and parmessean salad and an amazing chocolate mirage cake dessert.

All up a good stay, yes we will be back, however excellence in service was a bit hit an miss.

Room Tip: 602 AMAZING, saying that their standard rooms are very good

This hotel is in a converted wool mill and the architecture is superb. Excellent Club Lounge, restaurants and Gym. The location is within walking distance of most major attractions.

My room was superbly decorated and had excellent amenities.

Room Tip: Try a Suite - absolutely beautiful.

Loved this hotel, the best I have stayed in Australia!
Modern fresh rooms with super comfy beds, stayed in a king deluxe and loved it!
Staff were very friendly and the complex has a funky feel to it.
Can't fault this hotel!!

I stayed at the IC Rialto recently for a weekend. The hotel is luxurious, and cleverly renovated, but is showing signs of age, in particular with the bathrooms.

It didn't realise that I would need to place a sign outside my room to receive a paper during my stay and therfore missed out both mornings. I didn't receive any upgrades or inclusions as a priority platinum which makes me wonder what being top tier in this loyalty program is actually worth.

I would stay at this hotel if I was doing business at this end of the city, but probably not for any other reason. It is good, but definitely not fantastic.

A party of 40 of us staying at The Rialto from New Zealand - to go to the Melbourne Cup.
We stayed for 2 nights. I found the hotel centrally located and comfortable, nice cosy beds!
What really impressed me was the staff - who bent over backwards to be polite, friendly and on to it. There was one particular staff member who was just amazing, Saskia. Saskia works the bar from late afternoon to closing - she's only 19 years old, maturity beyond her years, interested in me and she herself was very interesting. I hardly ever eat at the bar, but having Tapas and chatting with Saskia made my night - there's a young woman who'll go far in life! the Hotel Intercontinental would do well to keep hold of you as an employee you were the simply the best! Thanks for a great experience, efficient and exemplary servive. Well done.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city.
