“Great hotel, great restaurant, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2012

The hotel delivers, as you always hope an Intercon to do.

Pool is really quite large for a downtown hotel, and open late (until 10:30pm), which is nice. Room is spacious and everything works. Lots of power outlets, and all in the right places!

The Restaurant on the lower ground floor is fantastic. I'm a Celiac, so dining is sometimes fiddly - no problems here, all the accommodations around my dietary restrictions were handled easily and the meals were amazing.

Ask Saskia for wine advice, and you'll get it in spades. She definitely exemplifies the excellent service you hope for at an Intercon, but don't always get.

Try the Penfolds GSM from the wine-by-the-glass menu - sensational.

I've stayed at this hotel a number of times during business trips to Melbourne. The last occasion was in April 2012.

The service is excellent and the rooms are well appointed although not particularly large. Wifi works first time every time. The beds are comfortable and there is no noise to keep you awake. Location is very good and close to transport, shops and sights. A great hotel for the business traveller.

Room Tip: Any room is a good room.

Last Sunday we stayed at the Intercontinental Melbourne to celebrate our son's birthday. The service we experienced from the valet-parking guy to the receptionist, the manager, the club lounge staff and restaurant staff was comparable with Singapore Airlines service. We have never experienced such services and client centricity anywhere in Australia.

We were very warmly welcomed at the door and then at the desk by friendly staff that worked to engage us as guests. Very comfortable room, king size bed and two wonderfully overlarge pillows each. The room was quiet, clean and very comfortable with ipod connectivity. We chose this hotel as it was near Vue de Monde. There is a side entrance with easy access to the restaurant in the rain. Breakfast was the only disapointment with soggy mashed hashbrowns and bacon rashers stuck together.

Very well located in heart of Melbourne CBD - nice walk to shops. Easy to get to Southbank and Docklands. Good walk to MCG. Hotel is very nicely appointed. Originally an old Governetment stores building but looks like no expense spared in converting it to 5 star hotel. The staff at the front counter and the concierge staff were excellent, probably the best I have experienced in a large hotel. They took their time to know us even though we were only there 2 days. Very impressed to be addressed by name. The breakfast was excellent - fresh, and lots of variety and excellent presentation. Will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Like most hotels, the windows didn't open so getting fresh air in is a bit of a problem. Mucked...

I reviewed the Intercontinental in January this year and I am very pleased to say that on our recent two night stay things have not changed. Still the same friendly, efficient and high quality service that makes our visits to Melbourne so enjoyable. A new discovery was how close it is to Movida Aqui, a fabulous restaurant just 5 minutes walk away.

Save your money Joining the Ambassadors club does not get you access to the club lounge. They take your $200 then tell you no club lounge access as club access is attached to a club room Nothing to do with being a member. Didn't get room upgrade which is allegedly part of Ambassadors club privilege as " a computer glitch caused overbooking of hotel". Different story every time we raised it Stayed 5 nights with 2 rooms at bottom of Collins Street it is a long walk uphill to shopping and restaurant precinct Can get better!

Dear Lpofbrisbane,
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay and the InterContinental Ambassador membership.

I would like to take this opportunity to apologise if you were under the impression Ambassador membership grants automatic access to our Club InterContinental Lounge. Gold InterContinental Ambassador members are upgraded to the next available upgraded room category. As you had booked a Deluxe King Room you were entitled to be upgraded to a King Premium Room type (our next category of room) - the upgrade does not however include access to the Club lounge, rather a larger room only. Booking a Club room type in future would entitle you to Club Lounge access and because of your Ambassador membership an upgrade to a larger room type.

Unfortunately we were unable to provide you with the appropriate room upgrade due to occupancy constraints and partly due to the interconnecting room request on your booking. A number of our Ambassador guests were similarly impacted on this rare occasion; however I have been advised that those guests were provided bonus Priority Club Rewards points, together with an invitation to complimentary pre-dinner drinks and canapés in our Market Lane Bar. I am sorry that on this occasion you felt that we did not respond to the issue in a way you felt appropriate and for any resultant inconvenience.

I hope to have the chance of welcoming you back to the hotel again and would welcome you contacting me directly to discuss your InterContinental Ambassador membership further and/or to make your future accommodation arrangements.

Kind regards,
Joerg T. Boeckeler

Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies.
