“Wonderful stay, great service, beautiful weekend away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2011

Me and my partner stayed here only one night. We were looking for a weekend away from the world, somewhere relaxing comfortable and affordable. and that's exactly what we got with this beautiful hotel. The staff were very gracious and generous, and were willing to help in anyway. The room was very spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. The shower was very nice and so were the toiletries.
The buffet breakfast was amazing. Had different foods and fruit and juices that I have never tried and it was a nice experience trying new things so close to home.
I definatly recommend this hotel for couples (not really a place for children) who wish to have a weekend away in luxury comfort and quiet.

Room Tip: If you want a big bed - king delux

Stayed for seven nights and whilst comfortable, it never set the heather on fire.
Lovely spacious room and the Bose sound system was excellent. Bed not as comfortable as others thought but this is a personal thing.
Toiletries excellent quality (Elemis) and shower good.
Internetaccess very expensive!

Room Tip: Buy some chocolates from the shop next door

Dear Brigham,

Thank you for taking the time to complete your review. I am so sorry that you feel that the hotel was pretentious. We strive to be an authentic and yet sophisticated hotel and to also deliver that to our guests through our service. I would be interested to learn from your experience and would like to invite you to contact me personally at joerg.boeckeler@ihg.com so that I may understand more about your experience and what you feel was pretentious. We are very open to learning and developing as a hotel and a team and i look forward to hearing from you on this matter. I am however so glad that you enjoyed the Bose docking station, Elemis products and our fantastic rain fall showers.

Kind Regards,

Joerg T. Boeckeler

We stayed for 4 nights to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Room was comfortable and spacious, staff were always courteous and friendly. Guest relations manager personally delivered a bottle of sparkling wine for us with a card to congratulate us on our anniversary which was a lovely touch. Location was great with a tram just a few metres up the road. Would not hesitate to recommend to friends or family and would definitely stay here again. Breakfast in Alluvial was fantastic also.

Stayed at the Rialto for 2 nights last month. On entering the hotel I felt it looked rather like a prison with its interior corridors and lack of natural light.. However, the quality of service more than compensated for my inital negative perception.
The stay was remarkable. The staff, particularly Kisher Narayanamurthi, Guest Relations, made our stay very special and memorable. We expessed an interest in the hotel's bee keeping project and were introduced to the enthusiastic chef, Nick Reade, who told us all about this green initiative.
Apart from the lack of natural daylight in the room, I can not fault my stay and feel that the staff make this hotel special.

Thank you for taking the time to share the experience you had at the hotel. The hotel has had quite a colourful history, although not a prison the hotel was once wool and wheat stores during the prosperous times after the gold rush, it the later years it was also used as an artists retreat.
We are so glad that our team was able to share with your their passion for beekeeping and please be assured that both Kishor and Nick will be congratulated for helping to make your stay so special.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto.

Perfectly located and great service. The type of service you don't need to ask for - they seem to know what you need. Great location.

we arrived Melbourne as the start of our Oz trip. we arrived the hotel in the evening with 3 suitcases, no bellboy came out to help us. finally managed to bring them to checkin desk. We were not told about the free tram when asked for direction
Room as ready and upgraded to a 1 bed suite. room is large and very lovely spa with seperate shower room. there is a TV on the wall in the toilet but could not figure out how to turn it on. The bed is comfly but would be nice if it is bigger.
In the morning, the 1st thing i had was a fall from my room to living room. there are a few step but it is fitted in carpet so i was like sking in the room. it is vert hurt and coould not lift anything even a month after we came home. I told the reception that about the fall in the room but no one offer doctor or incident report form to fill.
After we came back from the excursion, i noticed my own hair brush whch i bought only few days ago was missing but replaced by the hotel's own one. My own toothbrush happened to be the same.
On check out when I mentioned the fall and the missing items, they did not response but only asked of anything taken from the mini bar abd yes I did because i am a royal ambassador & mini bar is free!

Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city.
