3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We stayed for three nights whilst visiting Melb to attend a family function. The location was great and staff were very helpful.
The rooms were clean and functional.
We had an issue with a noise waking us up at 6am on a Sunday morning, our first morning (it sounded like a whistle only not really loud just annoying) By 9am when we were leaving the noise had gone away. We reported it anyway to the desk as we didn't wish to get woken so early again the next morning. The desk said they would look into it. All was quiet when we arrived back in the room at 11pm.
Next morning the noise started up again around 8am and was still going later in the early afternoon when we returned from a walking tour. We again spoke with the desk who sent up maintenance to determine where the noise was coming from. Eventually it was agreed that the noise was more than likely a flute being played in the adjacent student accommodation. So the desk asked us if we would like to move room away from the irritating noise. We readily agreed and were upgraded into a two bed apartment facing north with a view of Victoria parade. We slept fine until the early morning traffic started to get aggressive, but then it is city traffic and we expected that.
The flute started up again around 8am but could only be heard in only the one bedroom.
We think that the musician will probably continue with their early morning practice as they realise they really do need the practice.
All staff were very patient, most understanding and extremely friendly and helpful.

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the ibis Melbourne. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback.

Thank you for showing patience and understanding regarding our flute playing neighbour in the adjacent building.

Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one.

Pros:
The Hotel is quite close to the Queen Victoria Market and the free tram.
The bedroom (1 double + 1 single) provides good space for a couple or 1 couple + 1 child.
Simple room but quite comfortable, with all the amenities for a short stay. Clean and with a 32" LCD, a small desk to use the laptop, shower.

Cons:
The sight of the room not so good, however if you are on a tourist thing, you'll spend most of day on the streets.

Most hotels are pretty standard when it comes to rooms, bed, shower, etc - the basics. But what makes the bigger difference is the warmth, genuine service of hotel staff. And Ibis at Thery St, Melbourne has loads of it - from the reception staff, staff at the cafe, cleaners - they all go out of the way to help you, not 'plastic'; but with genuine warmth. Great location and great service. 2nd time here and they didn't dissapoint.

Me & my friends booked a 2 bed-room apartment and stayed here for 8 nights.

There were 5 of us in the apartment, 2 pax in each room & 1 used the sofa-bed in the living room (no extra charges!). Come up to about SGD$60-70 per pax per night which was really affordable.

The location is very convenient; 2 minutes walk to Queen Victoria Market, 5-8 minutes walk to the Dracula-themed restaurant, just below 10 minutes walk to the Melbourne Central shopping centre & about 10-15 minutes walk to melbourne museum, old melbourne goal, lygon street etc.

Main thing I disliked was the bed & pillows, way too soft. I had a backache after 2 nights.

& another problem was that there's only one toilet & one bathroom but there five of us, so we had to take turns in the morning and at night when we were dead beat after sight-seeing the whole day.

Room Tip: The 2 bed-room apartment only had one toilet & one bathroom. That might be a problem!

Dear Pingishere,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Tripadvisor.

We are happy to hear that your overall experience at the ibis Melbourne was a pleasant one. I appreciate your feedback about the bathroom. An option for future stays might be to book two standard rooms and have them allocated next to each other, which would then provide you with the use of two bathrooms.

With regards to the soft pillow, if you would not mind informing me of your details I can look to have these pillows replaced.

Thank you once again for your feedback.

Sincerely,

Jayesh Bala
