“Classic 5 Star Quality”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

I have read the poor reviews below, but I can honestly say that I did not encounter any of the issues that have been mentioned. This was a great quality place with large rooms and fantastic views.

Nobody has mentioned the Ru-Co bar in the hotel. This has to be one of the best hotel bars that I have been to. It is so classy and just makes you want to relax and drink yourself silly surrounded by the buzz.

Room Tip: Get a high up room for the view.

I wish I had reviewed Tripadvisor first! the negative reviews I have read are so true! I stayed in a Grand King room for three nights and there was nothing grand about it. What is worse this was for a special occasion. Wasn't clean to a Five Star standard, you had to hang onto to the shower nozzle as it wouldn't stay up, shower screen cracked, air conditioner didn't work (ran hot and cold), toiletries were not replaced daily (ran out of toilet paper, ran out of tissues). Called Assistant Manager after the first night to inform of some of the mentioned issues, on return to the room that day I would suggest nothing had changed as that night the air con was still hot and cold, still had to hang onto the shower nozzle and the room was only cleaned to the standard required for a multi night stay, nothing more nothing less. Family holiday people, do your research as this is not a family hotel, it isn't even grand! Manager, you can reply to me personally as your assistant manager knows who I am, unless that is other people had issues mentioned above on the 30th Oct 2013! Actually there was one good thing about the room, well done on the window furnishings, no light comes in.

Room Tip: Read all reviews, but especially the negative ones as it is amazing how true they generally are! Yes...

I stay here for work so whilst I don't pay, I can comment that the room service is way over prices. A small piece of salmon with veges is $30 and you are left hungry. Other than that the rooms are and bathrooms are kept clean and service is good. Don't expect a good view if you are staying in the basic room. Gym is the best thing about this hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night and had a great 24 hours in the city. The hotel has a very classy and luxurious feel, lighting is moody, and staff are very friendly and attentive (as you'd expect of a hotel of this quality). It is located in the Paris End of Collins St, being a fantastic spot for exploring the shops, bars and restaurants in the city (the Spice Market is underneath the hotel, and Flinders Lane restaurants are just out the back (eg. Coda, Ezard)). We had breakfast the next morning at a laneway eatery on Degraves St, which is only a short walk/one stop tram ride from the hotel.

We stayed in a King View Room on the 22nd floor, and the view was excellent - all across the south side of the city, including the Yarra River, MCG, Botanic Gardens & Governor's Residence, Shrine of Remembrance, Eureka & Crown towers, and we could see as far as Albert Park and the water in Port Philip Bay (St Kilda).

The room was a little smaller than we had expected, but had a very comfortable king bed. We didn't get a great night's sleep as the room was not totally soundproofed - we could hear next door both sides (one rattling coathangers in the wardrobe, the other's water pipes when taking a shower). The room was also too warm without the air con running, which meant a noisy and disturbed night's sleep with the air con unit on. I would take ear plugs next time! There was also a charge to use wi-fi in our room, which we thought was a little harsh given the price of the room. There was an ipod docking station within the base of the digital alarm clock. The bath was one of the biggest I have used, a good full person size - I could lie back and totally stretch out my legs (I'm 5'6").

Given the price of the rooms and the fact that we were leisure travellers not business, we were a little disappointed with the leisure facilities - the hotel does have a steam room, sauna, pool, spa and 17 degree plunge pool (for the brave!) however the facilities seemed to cater more for the business traveller than leisure traveller. The pool area felt a bit soulless and functional - there were no loungers around the pool to relax, read a book, have a snooze etc. - you were just there to use the facilities then head back to your room. My husband and I could not take a sauna or steam together as these are not communal but rather there are single-sex facilities in each of the changing rooms. We didn't use the gym facilities, but they looked fairly well equipped.

The food in the hotel restaurant (we only had lunch there), Collins Kitchen, was excellent, if a little pricey - a lunch of 2 sandwiches, 1 bowl of fries and 2 glasses of wine came to $90. The concept of the Collins Kitchen itself is a great one though (different culinary themed open kitchens with chefs cooking fresh produce while you watch), and it is certainly worth a wander round the various cooking stations even if you don't take a table.

Overall, whilst we had a very enjoyable stay, we didn't feel that it was great value overall for the leisure traveller in light of the things it lacked in the leisure facilities and no free wi-fi.

Lovely hotel with luxury feel. Totally recommended. Staff are very good. Rooms we'll finished with very comfy king beds.
The restaurant was a huge disappointment however and would recommend going elsewhere for al la carte dinner. The restaurant was a little pricy, the food was cold and not very good. The waiters and waitresses lack experience and where generally terrible. Apart from this the hotel is recommended. Good end of the city too.

This is our favourite hotel in Australia, perfect for a few nights of luxury and relaxation in Melbourne. Perfectly located to restaurants, bars, transport and the river, easy 5 minute walk into the main shopping mall. Rooms are large, fantastic king size bed, work area and lounge suite. Bathrooms have everything you need, separate bath and large shower with great amenities. We always stay in the club room, with access to the grant club through the day, with complimentary continental breakfast (great salmon), biscuits and coffee/tea and soft drinks all day long, then amazing canapé's (hot and cold) and drinks from 6:00 to 8:00 every evening (wine, beer, spirits). Staff are friendly and helpful, especially in the grand club (thanks Yaya, John and Emmanuel). Free fast wifi in the hotel and club, also free in your room if you are a Hyatt Platinum Member. Checking in is always easy, especially if you are in a club room where you can go straight up to the club and check in there, nice and private. Perfect as always. Thanks Hyatt
They have a great gym and pool area. The pool is nice and warm with a very large spa pool and cold plunge pool. There are huge change rooms, with separate steam and sauna in the mens and womens. Ample towels, always clean and well serviced.

Room Tip: corner rooms are best, very quiet. Ask for a high floor and if you can book a club room I would def...
