“Wonderful hotel and people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

This was a delightful three day stay. The room was lovely, the evening food on the executive level was good (I upgraded for $60/day for the privilege) and the people exceptionally friendly. Breakfast was typical continental and nothing special. Though a large hotel, the elevators were speedy. My room was right by the elevators but the noise was not a problem (you could only hear them from the bathroom-and only on occasion). I was on 24 (of 32) and rarely waited longer than a few seconds. I was pleased with check-in. I arrived at 11 am (3 hours before check-in) and was thrilled after 24+ hours of travel to have a room ready. It should be noted the hotel food is expensive but Melbourne is an expensive city. The bathroom was spacious with both a bath and shower and plenty of nice amenities beyond just soap and shampoo (including tooth brush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, etc.). The hotel is nicely located, being walking or trolley distance from lots of attractions. Try the free city line tram which tours around the perimeter of the city. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Melbourne.

Room Tip: High floor is nice-might have liked one better if facing the sea.

We stayed in a View Room overlooking the city skyline. We found the check in procedure to be very quick, efficient and professional. They took our bags as the room was not yet available and upon arriving at our room, our bags had already been placed inside. Room was spotless, large King Bed, excellent mattress. Rooms were double brick so you can’t hear your neighbor or any ambient noise from the hallway. I requested chocolates and rose petals to be placed in the room, this was done to a very high standard and care. Bathroom was large, clean and had an excellent shower. Hotel facilities were top notch, large in-door pool and spa with sauna and gym facilities. Location wise, the hotel is located close to Bourke Street and all major tram routes. We would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again!

I've stayed at this hotel several times now. The staff are always willing to go the extra mile. I was upgraded to a suite on level 30, and had the executive lounge access to go with it. The lounge is large and well stocked. The evening food spread and table canapé service is outstanding. Drink selection is excellent with complimentary wine, beer and spirits.

The suites are huge with a brilliant lounge area and separate powder room. The valet service, whilst pricy (as most hotels are) was prompt and courteous.

It's not the cheapest hotel around, but it's certainly by no means the most expensive. Well worth considering for the location (Paris end of Colins Street) and the outstanding service. Can't wait to stay here again soon!

Having stayed at many, many GRAND hotels all over the world both for business and pleasure, I was actually looking forward to what my hometown had to offer, it is not often you actually stay at a hotel in the same city in which you reside. As I was attending a gala event/ball on a Friday evening, I thought it would be a great idea to stay at the Grand Hyatt, as it was close to work, so convenient for me to go and get ready there after work. The staff were friendly enough, however this is where the nice ended. The room was small and we arrived to find a lady standing in the adjoining doorway, with full access to our room....An adjoining room was not what I had paid for....but when I called reception, they told me that they were fully booked so we could not have another room, nor were we offered a discount on this smaller room. It took them 10 minutes to send someone up to come and lock the adjoining door! The bathroom was of an adequate size, however the toilet had a problem and the water pressure, well it can only be described as a trickle....there is no USB port in the room, not one and this room was on the upper levels, primarily designed and designated for business travellers.

The positives for the hotel are: the location, it is located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD and at the Paris end of Collins Street, great for shopaholics...even for those who only do it through the windows!

The other positive for the hotel is The Kitchen, breakfast here is amazing...at a cost of course! But worth the $40.00 (AUD) as you can sit here for a couple of hours and eat your way through the various breakfast bars, from fruit, pancakes and cereal, all the way to bacon, eggs, dumplings, noodles and frittatas...and very good coffee (and I got that from my friend who is a little bit of a coffee connoisseur!).

So if you are visiting Melbourne, try and stay at another hotel on Collins Street, thankfully there are a few 5 star hotels to choose from....Grand Hyatt, lift your game or remove the Grand from your name, as Grand you are not...!!!!

Room Tip: Upper levels have great views of Melbourne, but they are still small

Dear Tpapadmi,

We are saddened to hear that you did not have a 'GRAND' stay at our hotel. We try and insure our guests have a memorable experience when they visit us and we are sorry your experience was less then what you expected. The incidence with your room and the adjoining door has been passed on to management and we thank you for this feedback and once again apologise.
It sounds like you took advantage of our decadent buffet breakfast which is fantastic as well as our central location. We hope to on day soon have the chance to reassure you that the 'Grand' in Grand Hyatt is well deserved.

I stayed there last month and it was a wonderful experience all round. The food and level of service from checkin to check out was top notch. I will now be co ing back each and every time as it was its own little vacation within our planned time in Melbourne. Thank you Grand Hyatt - exceptional staff, rooms and service level.

Room Tip: I love the one bedroom suite - A++++++

Stayed two nights for the grand final at the Melbourne cricket ground so awesome to be within walking distance of everything without being too much in the heart of the action. Quiet. Awesome block out blinds. Clean rooms. Definitely 5 stars standard but priced accordingly - have heard rave reviews about their breakfast buffet but didn't get to try it out.
