“Great stay at the Hyatt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012

Just returned from a Convention in Melbourne where we stayed at the Grand Hyatt and also held the convention there.
Beautiful hotel, my room was on the 19th floor, massive window that had a great view of Collins St and the city.
The staff were amazing, so attentive at all times.
I had read some not so good reviews before going and they have either sorted out a lot of their issues or we were just lucky.
From Breakfast in the morning to the dinner at our Gala Ball, all the food was fabulous, did not have one bad meal, all beautifully presented.
If I had to complain, their coffee sucked but in Melbourne a great cup of coffee is always just around the corner.

Chery Ann G,
We are proud of the 5 star service we provide - going above and beyond to exceed expectations is definitely part of the 5 star experience. It is great to read that you enjoyed our culinary offerings throughout the hotel – from our Collins Kitchen restaurant, Room Service and even our Event floor, it’s all about fresh ingredients, locally sourced where possible. We hope that you will come back to stay with us soon – for an event, a business trip or even just a relaxing weekend away.

I Just came back from a three day long weekend here and WOW! From arrival i was greeted by two bell boy and valet attendant. Up the escalators to reception again greeted instantly with a swift check in and into the room. I stayed in the ambassador suite on level 33 and it was worth every penny. Im talking two bathrooms spa , separate shower individual sinks which i love . Lounge room ,dining area for 6 and a kitchenette . Floor to ceiling views from every angle of Melbourne was breathtaking. The executive lounge offering we great and so is the staff the usual smoked salmon cold meats , breads . Also hot canapes offering served to your table good variety , self service spirits . Pool area on level 9 is classy marble finish towels are available from the pool area which i like saves you having to bring down your own then call for more later . It's a very child friendly hotel with noodles and floaties available for use. The spa is the right temperature not too hot for the kids and the pool slightly colder but was refreshing.

Its a nice 5 min walk to the main Bourke street mall which is nice to get the legs pumping without having to carry the kids a kilometer and its slightly downhill. I also got a ride to crown casino for dinner there at rockpool (which was a disgrace for the price) via horse and cart. Its worth it in my opinion for the $100 . I had a party of five and two girls which we all fit and was one of the highlights of the trip. I was quoted $200 but bargained down to $100 thru the hotel concierge who was able to get one within 15 mins.

Breakfast in the morning is one of the best around . Its an extra $20 per person for full buffet if you have lounge access and its definitely worth it even just once over your stay here. There is a egg chef anything you want , a pancake guy who does awesome waffles with broken chocolate , marshmallows and chocolate topping. Also cuppacino ,espresso tea all inclusive which was a pleasant surprise. The only issue i had was late at night 1am the central heating was making a bit of noise but within 10mins

Last time we stayed in the park hyatt which was just too far , especially with the kids and its a hike even to the pool. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: make sure you have lounge access.

Dear Shane W,
We would agree that it is definitely worth booking a room or a suite with Grand Club access - the views from our Club rooms are particularly spectacular at night, with the lights of Melbourne twinkling at your feet. Coupled with the complimentary evening drinks and canapés, and the luxurious continental breakfast all served in the Grand Club lounge on the 31st floor, a Grand Club room certainly makes your stay that little bit extra special. We are glad to hear you all had a comfortable and relaxing stay with us. We would love to welcome you and your family back to stay with us next time you are thinking of a weekend away in Melbourne!

Just had a one night stay but this property was first class from start to finish. The Hyatt brand definitely seems to have more upscale properties in this part of the World and Melbourne is no exception. Great location, service, food and rooms. You cannot go wrong with this choice and it was also a good value.

Stayed here for 3 nights in August on Level 25.

I found this to be a very classy hotel with all the facilities, comforts and level of service to be expected of a 5-star Hyatt. The fitness club, pool, spa, sauna and hot tub were lovely, but while I was there, the whirlpool part of the hot tub was not working.

Concierge got us a last minute table to Ezard, where we had the meal of our life! We are very, very grateful!

Now the cons:

1. I agree with everyone who has complained about the plumbing, shower and toilet flushing noises from neighbouring guestrooms. This kept me up quite a bit every night.
2. Exorbitant broadband /wi fi charges - $0.55 per minute capped at $29.95 per day!!!!
3. Please don't ever, ever order a room service meal here - it is just awful. I had the lamb shanks on mash, and it was old, and dry, and coated with a sticky sweet thick dark sauce. The mash was powdery and bland. Yuckkkkkk.

Overall, I would say it's a ....4.75 star experience.

Dear Kay O,
So good to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! We pride ourselves on our 5 star service, providing all the little touches you would expect form a 5 star hotel, and it is wonderful to read that we lived up to your expectations. However, we are disappointed to read that noisy plumbing and below par room service food marred your stay. We have raised the plumbing noise with our Engineering team for review, and have briefed our Food and Beverage management team on your room service meal experience for review and training. We do hope that you will consider staying with us again when you next visit Melbourne.

Stayed for one night on the weekend. The location is great and close to attractions / shops / restaurants. The rooms are much improved since refurbishment but are relatively small due to the age of the building. All the usual amenities and little touches expected of a 5 star hotel but offer nothing that is exceptional.

The breakfast spread is good but again nothing exceptional. The service however was excellent even during busy times.

Overall would stay again provided a good deal but you may find better value elsewhere.

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt in June for 3 nights. Check in was quick and easy, staff very helpful, polite and courteous. Room was nice and very comfortable bed. We stayed on one of the lower floors which was fine. View wasn't great but we were hardly there and we mainly kept the curtains shut.

Fantastic location - very convenient to mall, Fed Square, etc etc. We walked most places. Great coffee in the lobby bar! Nice atmosphere.

My only real issue with this place is the amount of plumbing noises - flushing toilets and the sound of water running during showers from other guests all interrupting your sleep/slumber/leisure. Almost overpowering. It is for this reason that I probably wouldn't stay again.

Dear BlueLag00n,
Melbourne is renown for the quality of its coffee, and we would certainly agree that our baristas make a great cup! It’s lovely to read that you enjoyed your stay with us, and found our staff warm and welcoming. We’re disappointed, however, that plumbing noise disturbed your stay – we have certainly raised this with our Engineering team for review. We do hope that you will reconsider and choose to stay with us again.

Recently completed a four night stay. Great location, close to everything (easy walk to MCG), room very nicely decorated and maintained. Everything you would expect of a five star facility. On the Wednesday, my wife approached the concierge for advice and a map to the Vic Park markets. Very clear instructions (along with the map) were provided. After a thirty minute walk she arrived to discover the markets are closed on a Wednesday! Not impressed.
Full room service breakfast is well worth it. Order one and it's easily enough for two people.
Can't believe the price of WiFi...capped at $29 per day. Two days wifi cost me $60!
A couple of hiccups but overall a more than pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view...floor doesn't seem to be important but the side facing the yarra river...
