“Apart from waiting at reception for 45 minutes !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2012

As above waited for 45 minutes for our pre arranged adjoining rooms, Reception was confused why we were angry our rooms were not ready. Check in time 2pm ,Our rooms were not available till 4.15 pm ish. Not good for a hotel of this standard. Waited a further 20 minutes when "allowed" into one room for the key to the second adjoining room. Cleaners were still doing their job
Meal in resturant great but room service menu had more choices.Staff as usual were polite and helpful.
Being offered level 31 is not compensation .

Room Tip: Organise 1 month in advance as 2 weeks was obviously not enough

The Grand Hyatt Melbourne is up there as being a good 5 star hotel. However, there are some things that could be done to improve it even more. We had booked a standard King room with a rollaway bed for our daughter to sleep on. Upon check in we were assured that the room was set up as requested - it wasn't. After 15 minutes of being in the room I called again to have the bed brought up - it wasnt. Atleast 90 minutes later when we left the hotel to go out for dinner I physically went to the front desk and asked about the bed - only after our return two hours later it finally appeared.

In the scheme of things this is a trivial matter. However, this is a five star hotel, that commands five star prices! If this had happened to us after a long haul flight and arriving during the night I would not have been impressed.

Great location, good service and room condition. It really p**ses me off though that they charge extra for wi-fi. I can get free wi-fi in cafes, shops, tourist attractions, yet even though I am paying hundreds of dollars for a room at the Hyatt, they want to charge me extra for checking my emails.

I'll go to Radisson Blu next time, they provide it free.

Dear TheGoodsons, Thank you for your feedback in regards to the charge of wi-fi. We appreciate your frustration; we really do. In our country it is still rather common to be charged for internet across the board; it is a matter that we as a Chain discuss on a regular basis and in line with our market set. We do have a wonderful loyalty program (Gold Passport) which allows you to enjoy such benefits due to numerous stays as a Platinum member. If you enjoy our hotel or Hyatt for that matter, this is a great way of ensuring you gain something back. It is a great program. Please do come back and enjoy our hotel in the future.

I stayed here with my husband over the New Year Period, and this has been my third visit to the Grand Hyatt. The rooms have recently been renovated and have the most comfy beds! You will definitely get a great night sleep here! The bathroom is huge, with a great tub and very spacious shower cubicle.

The gym is definitely a massive highlight of this hotel - it is an actual gym open to members and therefore runs classes that hotel guests can also go to. The cardio and weights equipment is new and high quality, and the pool is also well maintained. There is also a full tennis court, half court basketball ring and golf driving nets on the 10th floor that guests can use!

The interior of the hotel itself is immaculate, and the elevators are prompt. The Collins Kitchen, which serves breakfast, is a must if you get a package deal; omelettes, eggs, pancakes and waffles made to order, along with a wide variety of fresh fruit and asian breakfast choices.

We used valet parking throughout our stay and the attendants were friendly and prompt. At $40 a day it is not cheap but is standard for what you pay at a five star hotel in the heart of Melbourne's CBD.

The hotel's location is fantastic - one block from Federation Square and two blocks from Bourke Street Mall. It is at the 'Paris End' of Collins Street and is nice and quiet - even on New Year's Eve there were no bogans out and about near the hotel.

Wifi is very pricey - at 55cents per minute or $25 per 24 hours, so ensure you bring a 3G enabled device or a USB modem. This would be my only complaint about the hotel though.

This is my favourite hotel to stay at in Melbourne - definitely one to consider if staying for business, a romantic trip or a shopping indulgence :)

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing north west to have a great view over the CBD.

Great bed, impecably clean, big room and very spacious bathroom. Everything looks and feels very new and modern. Great place to stay in Melbourne. Unfortunately wifi is not complimentary (actually quite expensive).

Yes, back again at this classy and charming hotel in the city. We love coming back for quite a few reasons but most importantly we love coming back because of great service with a smile we get every time without a fail and because of the fantastic accommodation. We got room on 28th floor with absolutely stunning city view. As usual, big comfortable room with ceiling to floor windows, lovely comfortable lounge next to the window, a decent table with two chairs and an amazing king size bed. The bed, bed linen, pillows - everything perfect! If you are suffering from back pain as I do, then you know how much we appreciate a good, comfortable mattress. I had the most wonderful sleep and woke up refreshed and rested. You couldn't hear any noise at all from the hallway outside, everything so quiet and peaceful. The only noise we could hear was the noise from the air conditioner which wasn't too bad but it was too loud for our liking. There was also a good selection of tea and coffee ( wouldn't mind more milk in the fridge! ) and a complimentary water. We didn't come with much baggage but in our opinion there is enough storage space for 2 people. Bath robes and slippers are also provided for you. Bathroom is gorgeous, big enough and luxurious, with a bath and a shower. Plenty of lovely towels, shampoo, soap, etc. and also a scale. Buffet breakfast ( $40p/p ) at Collins Kitchen was tops, with great selection of hot and cold dishes, bread, fresh fruit, juices, bakery delights, and the list goes on. Great service all the way, very polite and respectful staff, nothing is too much trouble for them. So over all, 10/10 without a doubt, we had a lovely and the most relaxing weekend. Would absolutely recommend to anybody who appreciates great service, quality meals and good night sleep!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on high floor with city view - you will enjoy every minute of it!

Great location and amenities. Good service and room condition. However lacks character but I was not expecting much at the first place given that it's a chain hotel. A bit pricey if comparing to Westin which is just next door (and cheaper).
