“great 5 day stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

I van't add much more than what other writers have written. Loved the new refurbishment, gorgeous modern kitchen. My bathroom had a bathtub, which our room was on 3rd floor. Huge shower, large bathroom with lots of vanity space to put your toiletries.
Great location, walk down the lane to the free tram and just round the corner to the Flinders Street Station. Flinders Street you can catch the free hop on hop off bus also. 10 minute walk to Crown Casino. I don't think you would need for anyting else in this apartment. If I was nit picking, I could suggest a better quality hair dryer, and the cushions on the lounge chair go to a funny shape. I will definitely be staying there again, especially as I am an AVPC member.

“Would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

The frontage might not be elegant, but it belies what you find within. We had a one bedroom apartment with kitchen and it had everything we needed for the perfect stay.

The decor is modern and stunning; very welcome after some of the drab places we stayed at during this trip.

There is no view to speak of, although i enjoyed watching the hustle & bustle of the laneway below.

The location is perfect; close to Flinders St Station, trams, the square, reataurants, grocery shops etc. It has it all.

The staff are very helpful and make you feel welcome.

“Fantastic staff and amazing rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

I love this hotel and its staff, especially Sandy who was so friendly and helpful. The fully stocked kitchen really made life easy and enabled us to visit the Queen Vic markets and sample all the goodies. The recent upgrade to the rooms is very stylish and its was like being in a suite. The only negative is that the rooms are not made up daily.
Thanks for a great time.

“A very comfortable week in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

The location is very central, only about 150 metres from Flinders St Station and less that 100 metres to trams stops and a Coles Express supermarket. Staff are helpful & allowed me to check in an hour early. On checkout they happily stored our luggage for the day.

We stayed in a 1 bedroon apartment on the 10th floor and the fitout was very nice - extremely roomy, fully functional kitchenette and a comfortable bed. There was a iPod docking station in the bedroom, but surprisingly, no sound system or DVD player in the lounge.

The coin operated laundry on the 7th floor was extremely useful.

Internet access from the room was rediculously expensive, so we made use of the 1/2 hour per day free access in the lobby - we usd our own devices & the WiFi was good and fast.

The only potential downside to the hotel would be the air-conditioning. This worked as expected during the day but seemed to go to sleep around 10pm and not restart until around 5 am. Our room warmed up overnight making it a bit uncomfortable - after the first night we chilled the room early in the evening and that saw us through until the A/C started working again in the worning.

But overall, a very easy place to like & we'd happily staye here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Grand Mercure Melbourne was completely refurbished in September 2011, when it celebrated its 90th anniversary. The refurbishment design philosophy drew inspiration from the early "fashion house" days with a view of creating an expression of sophisticated elegance, through an individual design concept that would remain unique to Grand Mercure Melbourne. The result has turned this "all suite" apartment building into a market leading boutique hotel. Presented is a contemporary range of sophisticated one bedroom suites that infuse modern design philosophies with the architectural and historical heritage of the building. Archival Melbourne scenes are displayed in the black and white artwork that adorn the corridors, evolving into a celebration of Melbourne’s modern icons throughout the suites. With the retention of the original detailed cornice and architraves, blended with contemporary designer furniture and fittings and modern state of the art appliances, the change is exceptional. The sophisticated colour palette is the key design element, from charcoal European bathroom tiles, contrasted by the white, chrome and glass designer fixtures to the use of dark veneers, stainless steel, leather and stone throughout the design.New Guest Features include Lounge 321 located on the ground floor of the hotel, which provides guests with complimentary internet access, newspapers, magazines, games, business and entertainment TV channels. The Courtyard is a European inspired inner city escape that provides guests with an intimate courtyard garden to share a drink with friends or to simply relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city. While the days of fashion are well in the past at 321 Flinders Lane, those looking for a fashion experience will not be disappointed with the Grand Mercure Melbourne’s Flinders Lane location. Ideally located between Elizabeth and Queen Street, it is in close proximity to Melbourne’s shopping, and entertainment district with the added benefit of having Melbourne’s famous cafe culture and the iconic Flinders Street Station right around the corner. ... more   less
