“Great hotel for business or pleasure in Melboune”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2011

I stayed here for business in June 2011 and it was perfect for what I needed:
- comfortable room
- fair price ($150 pn Inc breakfast)
- good Internet as I need access to web services for business (Skype, email, etc)
- food: restaurant was good with exceptional service (Mohammed in particular very friendly and attentive)
-pool: they have a 17m lap pool which is just long enough for exercise while away on business
- car park was safe and secure

So I will be going back there. This one just pips the Seasons Botanic around the corner due to the pool!

It's also very close to South Melbourne's trendy cafes' and restaurants.

We got a good rate for this hotel at $170.00 for the night, which included free car parking and breakfast.
Look of hotel: The hotel was fine, but it looks a bit tired like it is in need of a refurbishment. We stayed on the second floor and the carpets were a bit off colour in some spots like they had a problem with rising damp or something. The car park is an underground car park, which is directly accessible from the hotel via lifts, however, the car park wasn't locked (i.e. gate and boom gate always opened) when we were there so that could be a concern.
Room: The room was a decent size. We were in a twin room which had a double bed and a single bed. The bathrooms have a shower/bath and a toilet. The room was clean, but I noticed some crumbs beside the bed so obviously someone hadn't vacuumed properly. The rooms aren't really soundproofed properly as you could hear guests talking if they were standing in the hallways, so i'd recommend getting a room away from the elevators.
Staff: Very friendly and courteous.
Breakfast: The breakfast was very simple. The hot stuff consisted of scrambled eggs (gross), bacon, hash browns, beans which were great. You can order different eggs from the waitress and the chef will make these for you (i.e. fried, poached etc). There was cereal and fruits and also anti-pasto.
Location: You could walk to st. kilda road from here which is convenient as you could then take the tram to the city, but we drove since car park was included and you can go in and out.

When available, the weekend packages including parking and breakfast are very good value here. The property is reasonably modern albeit in a bland hotel style and with good views to parkland in the rooms facing Queens Road. The breakfast is buffet with a good range of cereal, fresh and preserved fruit, breads and cooked food. Location is about 200 metres from a tram stop in St Kilda Rd which provides a relatively short trip into the city. A further short tram trip to the MCG after changing at the Flinders station corner means this is a good option for weekends where you are attending a sporting event at the MCG and are happy to do the short tram trips (it is much better value than the Mantra Jolimont, which I have separately reviewed, for this purpose).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the park

Hotel is in an excellent location for Grand Prix as it looks onto Albert Park, we had a view of the track!
Nice rooms that are well cleaned and tidied each day. There are loads of toiletries, sewing kit, shoe polish etc and they are always replenished each day- very nice.
Mini bar is not too expensive.
We had a nice meal in the hotel and also room service which is the same price- all good.
Nice pool and also gym and sauna on the roof
Theres a good buffet breakfast- plenty to choose from and on til 10.30 and 11 at weekends.
Hotel is only a few stops on the tram to centre of town. It also has underground parking.
No negatives highly recommend this hotel

We stayed at this hotel in April 2011. First impressions in the entrance and lobby were good, however up to rooms the interiors were quite dated. Rooms are a very good size (quite large) and very clean. Bathroom was very decent too. I would recommend requesting a west-facing room as our room was facing east and all the view we had was other buildings. To the west there are great views over the Albert park lake and golf course. The room was comfortable, although there was a constant hum which sounded like an air conditioning or exhaust unit. I think this is expected in hotels, and I didn't think to complain as it's a background noise that you can get used to. If you like total quiet it might not be so pleasant, or perhaps it was due to the location of our room. Positives with the hotel are free parking and 12pm checkout (booked from the hotel website). Also for +$30 buffet breakfast for 2 is included with a large selection of hot breakfast foods, cereals, many toast varieties, fresh fruits, juices and tea and coffee kindly refilled by the very polite and professional staff
at your table. Overall I'd say the hotel is good value given the usual facilities of gym, spa etc and decent rooms. Location was perfect for us as we wanted to be near Albert park but it's a drive or tram ride to the city. 2 min walk to a strip of shops with mcdonalds, subway and other cafes if you're hungry and want something quick. Was only there 1 night so can't comment on long stays but I would probably only stay here short-term and would recommend this hotel if you need to be close to Albert park/ st kilda rd area.

Stayed in the Queen room for 2 nights. Really nice, clean and comfortable room. Bed was comfy, room service served good food, reasonably quickly. We had a view overlooking Albert Park golf course and the river, so was very happy with that. Hotel is located pretty much halfway between St Kilda and the CBD which is about a 50 minute walk to each or just under $10 taxi fare. Only a 5 minute walk to the Botanic Gardens which are lovely.

Day staff were nice to deal with, afternoon/night staff not so friendly. The TV only has one movie channel which played the same two movies on rotation the whole time we were there and had 4 sports channels. In-room internet is a complete rip off at $25 for 24 hours but was not working when we were there anyway. Pay per view movies are $17 each so can't imagine too many people would sign up for that! Website advertises complimentary fresh fruit but we never saw any. Free parking is good considering how rare that is in Melbourne.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the park/river

We had been staying at a variety of hotels, lodges and motels throughout our 2 week+ stay in Australia. This place was the least expensive, and, by far, the nicest. On special, it cost us $80 for each of the 3 weekend nights. Our room did not have the preferred view of the garden and water, but we did have an end unit on the top floor and extra mitred corner window, and, according to the room diagram, one of the two largest rooms on the floor. The furnishings were high ended and in fine condition. The bathroom immaculate and contained not only the normal toiletries but expanded them to include a razor and shave cream, a packet of hand laundry detergent etc. and included fine chocolates on our pillows. The lobby contained a selection of complementary newspapers and an (overpriced) restaurant. The service at the reception was exceptional nce and horrible another time. The hotel did not have wi-fi (surprising for what seemed to be a business oriented hotel), but they did offer the use of 2 free computers and printers in a room-key accessible business center. Garage parking was also free. The only real disappointent was the concierge. Whenever I needed him, he was not on duty. At times, like 8-9 AM, normally a busy time for a concierge, one would expect one available but I was told that he was not on duty yet, nor would be for a while. The guy at reception was more than helpful, though, getting me the info I needed regarding returning a rental car and also maps, directions and suggestions of places to go/eat etc. The day before we left, when we were trying to plan the airport shuttle for our departure...again.. no concierge. The young boy at reception told us we had to take a taxi (for a huge sum), or walk to town to catch a shuttle. I asked about the shuttle we had seen the day before dropping people here and he said we could only do it if we gave a 24 hour notice and we were at hour 21. Fortunately, I remembered the name on the shuttle van. We contacted them on our own (local calls from our room had a 90 cent charge...also quirky for a business hotel) and arrange pick-up at the hotel. They said a 24 hour notice was NOT necessary. They came as planned. We could not help but notice that when we left...again...there was no concierge.
Lots of airline people were staying at this hotel which is located outside the central business district and it seemed to cater to them. Never got to use their indoor pool though it looked inviting.
If you can get a deal on this place like we did, it certainly would be a value for the money.
