“Excellent!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2010

I've learnt not to post reviews until I've experienced a hotel/restaurant at least a couple of times. So, after staying at the Mantra on two oacssions recently I can only recommend it highly. I stayed in one of the spa suites (room no. ends in 09). The room was the size of a small apartment... in particular it has a full sized fridge, kitchette, dining table for six and a king bed. Service was efficient, friendly and genuine.

Location is perfect... quiet and within walking distance of everything. Like noted by another reviewer, parking can be an issue... like in most places in the city. Perhaps management could be a little more upfront on their website.

However, you are wondering why only 5 stars the? The restaurant downstairs, whilst I believe not connected to the hotel, is appalling! I just can't understand how such poor quality, over priced, food can be served in an establsihment that should be making every effort to excel, given the great quality of the hotel! Having said this, there are many, many great restautants in the City... Movida, one of the best, is next door!!

The Room Service menu is far too expensive!!! Steaks at over $40 not acceptable... I dined at Maze Grill and the steaks were cheaper there... rated as an excellent restaurant!

Without doubt though this is/will be my choice of hotel when staying in the City.

Only luke warm water at 7:30am and room airconditioning did not operate particularly effectively. I would recommend this hotel if these two issues are dealt with.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights for a short break without the kids. I booked it over the internet and got a really good deal, pay 2 get 1 night free for a studio apartment. It was great, the room was on the 8th floor and was a really decent size with a kitchenette and meals area. Big bathroom with both a shower and toilet. Certainly didnt need anything bigger for the 2 of us. The furnishings were really nice and the bed and pillows comfy. Plenty of quality toiletries so no need to bring your own. The staff were always friendly, helpful and approachable. Hotel is in a good location, only a short walk to most things or to the tram stop. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to anyone else.

Mantra on Little Bourke is in a great location in Melbourne, close to Chinatown, railway station, city centre and more. Nothing is too far away, and getting anywhere by foot doesn't take too long. The rooms are comfortable in size, not too private between the lounge and bedroom area, but not a major drama there.

The staff are friendly and informative, our reservation was incorrect upon check in however this was fixed up for us - Housekeeping did still knock on our door on the wrong morning for check out, however this was then rectified (again).

The only real problem we had with the hotel was that there was a major construction site right next to our bedroom window, which started up with drilling through concrete at 7am every morning apart from Sunday. Not great for a relaxing weekend away.

Would recommend the hotel, however definitely request a room away from the construction zone should it still be going!

Stayed here over Easter 2010. Location is quite good and room was a good size. We were charged $90 for parking (3 days) and were unaware of this charge. Internet costs are ridiculous. Most decent hotels don't charge for this service anymore. Bathroom not cleaned all that well. Foxtel missing for entire holiday but no attempt to make amends for this by waiving internet charges or even a free drink or something complimentary??
Restaurant expensive so we ate out every meal.
Won't be back.

Stayed for 2 nights in december 09 for a business trip. Stayed in a 1 bedroom suite, it was fantastic! Large living area with windows everywhere, a kitchen area and great bedroom & bathroom. Location was terrific, right near the Bourke St shopping mall. Staff were good and the restaurant affordable with good food. Would definitely stay here again!
