“Great hotel, and a good price”

Bayview on the Park

Jul 28, 2007

Firstly just be aware that there's a "Bayview Eden" (formerly the "Eden on the Park") just down the road - it's easy to get the two confused.

Having stayed at the Bayview Eden before I decided this time to try the Bayview on the Park. It's cheaper, and it shows slightly, but overall this is an excellent hotel.

The location is good, not so much because it's near much, but because it's only one block from St Kilda Road and the trams that run straight into the city or the St Kilda itself. If you feel like the way, Southbank is about a 45 minute walk.

The room I had was well sized and very nice (Although it was a double queen room, so possibly a bit larger than the single rooms).

Overall I'd certainly recommend it, and would stay there again.

We stayed here overnight in june 2007. Rooms are modern and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Location is great, being only a short walk to a tram stop which will take you in to the city in less than 5 minutes. I would stay here again.

This was my third visit to Bayside On the Park. I have on all occasions found this hotel very friendly, comfortable and clean. The only downside is that the pool and spa are outdoors and right in front of the bar area. There is a small gym, nothing flash but enough if you want a bit of a workout. Heating and cooling in the room worked well, although made a little bit of a noise when cooling down, nothing major. Could hear the traffic on Queens road slightly but again wasn't really noisy enough to really bother us.
The Premier rooms have either a Queen bed or two double beds which are great when travelling with the kids. Kids under 12 free when using exisiting bedding. I think they eat free too, but you might want to check if that is still the case. The rooms have been upgraded since my last visit and are clean and comfortable. The front rooms have a lovely outlook over Albert Park, so request one of those if you can. Check in was at 3pm but we got there early at 12.00 planning to just leave our car in the car park and head into town shopping but were very kindly allowed to check in early. Rooms seem to allocated as you arrive so it's an advantage to be early. The tram into the city runs along St Kilda rd and it's about a 10min ride into the heart of the city. Five mins drive to St Kilda or South Melbourne. We paid a very reasonable $120 for two with buffet brekkie in a Premier room. I booked on the site wotif.com.au and had no problems. Smoke free hotel, carparking is free which is a nice change, yummy brekkie spread, very central to everything, room service very reasonably priced, comfy beds, clean, friendly, in house movies also free. Not 5 star but neither was the price. For $120 per night fantastic value!

“Excellent Value”

Stayed at the hotel on the sunday night over the queens birthday weekend. I found the hotel to be excellent value. We booked a package through wotif which included a 3 course dinner, two drinks and full buffet breakfast for $260. It was our first night without our 8 week old son and we needed time to refresh so we were hoping the hotel would be nice and quiet! We were placed in a room on the top floor which literally felt like it was vibrating and sounded like an engine running from the airconditioner units on the roof but we were promptly changed to a lower floor on request which was very quiet. Our room had a view of albert park which was nice and the room was well furnished and clean with complimentry slippers. There was no smell of cigarette smoke in our non smoking room but we noticed the lifts smelt like smoke the whole time we were there. Great selection of amenities in the bathroom (laundry powder, toothbrush, shoe shine, sewing kit plus toiletries). Bathroom was a decent size and clean. Indoor heated pool was too cold for us (a common feature of melbourne hotels in winter-why can't they turn the heat up) but spa was lovely and quite large. Could have topped up towels more regularly as there was never any clean ones when we went to use spa. A few dangers-rail into spa almost detached and steps into spa area very wet and slippery. Room service was very quick and food good. No extra charge for room service- I hate the way you pay an inflated rate for room service food and then they charge you to bring it up! Resturant food was also very good and service attentive. Buffet breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and food regularly topped up and kept fresh. Parking is free-yay in hotel car park. Overall a very pleasant and refreshing stay.

Nice enough hotel. Okay location.
Enjoyed our stay at this hotel in DEC 2006.
BEWARE!! This hotel cannot be trusted with your credit card details.
Have rec'd a large debit to my credit card 6 months after our stay.
We booked our trip through a travel agent and paid in full up front. On arrival I left an inprint of my credit card for room service etc. (which we did not use). On check out we were told there would be no further charges.
6 months later a charge hits my credit card! Upon investigation it would appear that the travel agent we booked through went into liquidation and still owed the hotel money. Instead of recoverying the money owed through correct procedures they have debited the guest's credit cards.
I have been advised that they have passed unauthorised transactions to a large number of customers.
Luckily my credit card company have fully refunded my account and are taking this matter up with the Bayview Goup. ( This problem is not exclusive to just this hotel.. the Bayview Eden is also taking unauthorised credit card payments.)

If you do stay at this hotel and provide them with your credit card details.. take extreme care to check that they do not debit your a/c with unauthorised charges.
