Hotel in an excellent location. Comfortable but could do with some modernising.
Pool gates very difficult to open if you are short, but pool and spa were great. Restaurant not quite as good as the last time we stayed although the service was good.

My first room at 9.30pm the air conditioner started to leak so badly it was pouring out through a down light onto a bench containing a plugged in kettle. A electricution or fire risk. Just lucky my ipad didnt get fried. The evident black plaster above the room suggested it leaks all the time but it just took time to build up to over flow. We were moved from that room to another smaller room with a fold away bed which looked at least 30 years old. My lighty built 9 year old refused to sleep on it as it wobbled to much. I ended up removing the mattress from the bent out of shape frame and slept on floor to get some peace.

Positives. The staff in particular the night manager was lovely. The pool was popular with my kids and spotlessly clean. Overall the hotel is showing its age and is in a need of a refit. It also appeared to be short staffed as bar waiting times were long. The package we got was well priced and suited its age and quality. Maintenance just seems to be a problem as also the foyer toilets were also out of action which meant the going to the loo in your room if you were at the bar or having a swim.

When we arrived here the receptionist demanded a AUD100 deposit from us, which has not yet been returned to my VISA account and it was not mentioned when we booked the room on the phone. The receptionist was abrupt to the point of being rude. The room was small and pretty seedy with a magnificent view of a wall and the inside of the hotel's car park. I'd say this was more like an upmarket backpackers hostel than the outside and the foyer would suggest. I notice that it does seem to have some favourable reviews so perhaps there are some decent rooms.

Excellent Large comfortable rooms! Bathroom needs some tlc!
Window does not open so must rely on noisy aircon.
Best to stay on first floor so only one flight of stairs for when lift is busy.
Breakfast was not top bad.
Pool old but also ok!

We use the Bayview anytime we are stying in Melbourne. It is very reasonably priced with great size rooms and bathrooms. The Bayview has great views over Albert Park, is very central to South Melbourne and the city. It is easy to park at the property and it allows you to come and go. The staff are very very helpful and make your stay most enjoyable.
It really is the best kept secret and I would not stay anywhere else!!!!!!!

Room Tip: They have rooms with 2 double beds which are fantastic. They are a great size and it allows for a g...

My wife and I stayed here on our last night before we left to go home to the UK, the room was booked and paid for by my brother in law, we arrived at the hotel around 4 pm, with my sister in law, her husband would be joining us around 6:30 pm, the receptionist wouldn't let us check in because the rooms were booked with my brother in laws credit card, so we were left to sit in the foyer till he arrived.
The foyer and reception area of the hotel gives the impression that it is a fairly up market hotel, but once you exit the lift, (the working one that is), it is like entering another world, the corridors leading to the rooms is shabby and run down looking, the rooms are clean, but tired, the wardrobe doors in my room were of the sliding tracks, and were very difficult to open. The accommodation area is badly in need of renovation, hence the reason I only give it three stars.
As for the name of the Hotel, I suspect that only applies to the rooms at the front, we were stuck in a room at the back over the laundry, which could be clearly heard working, especially when the machines went on a fast spin.

Room Tip: If you want a good room, find another hotel.

We had a room on the second floor for 3 nights and enjoyed the large picture window views over Albert Park across the road. Although Queens Rd is a busy road we did not hear the passing traffic or the preparation works for the Grand Prix which occurred over a Saturday/Sunday night. Our room was presentable with cosy large armchairs strategically placed by the window; most nights after returning from a night out we had a glass of wine in the relaxed comfort of the armchairs. The hotel has a swimming pool and gym, however, we did not use these facilities. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. We had room service for some snack meals and these were promptly delivered and tasty. We did not have other meals at the hotel as we were catching up with friends for either breakfast or dinner. The hotel is close to St Kilda road trams which was important to us as we didn't want to drive to the city or surrounding areas.
We considered we got good value for the price
