“Don't let the reception put you off”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

We had a great night sleep in the heart of Melbourne - for just $110. The Mercure is a basic hotel but is surprisingly well equipped. Our room was small but came with an iron and ironing board, tea and coffee - and biscuits!

The air-conditioning was pretty noisy but this probably drowned out any external noises so we didn't mind. We have stayed in this hotel before in a room that was over looking Swanston Street - which was very noisy indeed. This time we were in a different part of the hotel so heard nothing.

The room was reasonably clean (not perfect) and the bed was comfortable - although the pillows were hard.

The one downside of this hotel is the inattentiveness of reception. There was always a queue when I went past, and staff had a tendency to be "busy" on computers or the phone in the reception area, ignoring customers. This is a minor complaint however.

Overall, excellent value for a stopoff or a 1-2 night stay.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms overlooking Swanston Street.

“Tried but clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Has large construction site opposite Hotel got woken up 6am, not to much noise but enough to disturb. Good location for Albert Park and Trams.Breakfast expensive, with no change in what was offered. Would book again

“Pay for the Location not level of quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Cannot fault the location and accessibility to surrounding areas however for a couple dollars more you can experience quality customer service and facilities at other hotels close by; this was hostel accomodation at outrageous prices.

“Wont be staying again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Paid for a "supreme queen room" and got a dodgy tiny room that backed right onto the lifts ... rang reception to check they allocated correct room and it was, none left to swap into. noisy, filthy stained carpets, NO MINIBAR, a view out window of brick wall ... wont be staying again.

“A good choice if you're not spending a lot of time in the room”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

The rooms were old and aging. In terms of the infrastructure, there's nothing spectacular about the hotel. Nonetheless the air-cond was nice and chilly, beds were comfortable and the location was fairly central. Although parking is a down-right hassle.

The staff are all friendly and helpful, and are a redeeming point for the hotel. Without the effort and attention of the staff and housekeeping, I'd be suspect of the quality of the room.

Overall, if you're in the city for business or plan to be out for the entire day, the hotel is functional and practical for you to rest.
