“Convenient and Economical”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I recently stayed here with a group of friends and we specifically chose this hotel for its location and price. It did not fail us in either category. It is in close proximity to shops, restaurants, the MCG, trams and trains. For the competitive price we paid, the rooms were more than adequate. Granted, on our floor we didn't have a view to talk about but other friends on the floor above us had a lovely view of trees and the city streets below. Our room was refurbished, the beds were comfortable and the bathroom, though small, was modern and very clean. Adequate tea/coffee making facilities, ironing board, hairdryer etc. were available. I would recommend asking for a newly refurbished room with a view when booking or checking in. The concierge, as mentioned, was genuinely friendly and very helpful. All staff were attentive and pleasant. My only negative would be that the lifts were incredibly old/slow (or perhaps we were always impatient to explore the fantastic sights of Melbourne!). I would readily stay here again for the reasons I have cited and recommend this hotel to others who are looking for comfortable and affordable accommodation in Melbourne.

Great location for quick shopping trips to Melbourne.Has a nice restrauant which has a great buffet breakfast at a reasonable price. Restrauant has a nice but limited evening menu. Rooms are clean but dated. Room pricing is reasonable.Would recommend for short hit & run visits

This is worse than a travel lodge, all the rooms are different and there is no continuity throughout!
I stayed in two different rooms during my stay here (due to a huge!! problem with my travel agent - do not travel with austravel) my first room was big and the beds were tiny, with a little kitchenette, which baffled me as i never expected it, along with a microwave which would have been handy if i was staying more than one night in that room. The view was a building site!
Whilst the staff were amazing, going above and beyond their actual job, in particular the concierge! who was amazing! and really helped find us a room after our travel agen made yet another mistake!
The breakfast was average, i suppose you get what you pay for, nothing to shout about.
Wouldn'y stay here again or recommend it, choose the Swanston Hotel which shares the same staff and lobby if you like the location, much better rooms and views!
As for the location, it is in the centre of everything but also in the centre of china town, which isn't my cup of tea, so had mixed feelings about where it was, good to get to all the main points but the atmosphere of china town didn't do it for me.

The hotel made an error with my booking and rather than take the opportunity to rescue an unhappy service experience blundered on making things even worse

There was so much wrong with so many aspects of this stay and I don't have the patience to reiterate it all here, having already submitted my rating on their own emailed survey. However, suffice it to say that the property is noisy , decrepit and staffed by uninterested young people who don't really know what to do with actual guests
Give it a miss.

Room Tip: Book another hotel.

My stay was over a very busy weekend. Pressure was on the lifts and restaurant at breakfast time.
As always found the staff very helpful and friendly.
The Mecure welcome is very central but with all the Building going on nearby it is not a popular pickup or dropoff for the shuttle buses.

thanks dave

Great location, very economic and worth staying in if you want to be close to the action in the city. You can take a bus to the Melboure cricket stadium and just walk along the main street if you like to shop.

Spent the weekend at this hotel with my daughter. The room was small and in need of some TLC, but it was very clean and the location was fantastic. On our first 2 nights I was woken at 4am by rubbish trucks emptying bins for about an hour - after that I requested we be moved to somewhere quieter, which happened with no problem & the next two nights were great. If you can get over the size of the rooms, the location is ideal, especially if you are just there for a weekend visit - I suggest for a longer stay, you perhaps book a suite. This suited us just fine for a weekend shopping trip!

Room Tip: Ask for a room where there will be not much traffic.
