“Odd entrance on Little Bourque, but nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

The entrance on Little Bourque St. is arranged a bit oddly, and that street, during our stay, was a nightmare of construction vehicles and equipment. But if you can get over the mess and inconvenience (which might be cleaned up by the time you read this), this is a pretty decent place to stay.

One minor feature we didn't expect is that our room had two sets of doors, providing an extra bit of sound insulation from the hallway. The hotel was mostly quiet when we were there anyway, but as I'm a light sleeper I appreciated this extra touch.

I'd consider staying here again on future visits to Melbourne.

Dear Joe H,

Thank you for for taking the time to write a constructive review after your recent stay with us.

I am happy to advise that major construction behind the hotel has now been completed. The Emporium has just been opened yesterday (16/04/14) and it makes all the traffic along Little Bourke St so much better now.

I look forward to welcoming you back on your future Melbourne trips.

Kind regards,
Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager

We arrived at the hotel and were met very warmly by the check in staff. The staff were v friendly and helpful, even interacting with our young son. We received a free upgrade and upon finding our room we found it spacious and comfortable. Everything was perfect! We pre booked breakfast at the Louden for the price of $18 per person and found breakfast to be fresh and nice. Location is fantastic, around the corner from the mall and shopping and a short walk to train stations. Will definitely be back and highly recommend to others.

The hotel's location is perfect to visit Melbourne. It's right in the centre with a lot of things within walking distance and the tram stops at your doorsteps. Chinatown is next door, the river is 10 minutes away. However because it's in a busy, central area, it stays busy at night and you hear all the noise from your room where noise insulation is quite poor.
The staff were lovely and helpful, so I can only say good things about the service. The room was comfortable even though some elements e.g. TV are quite dated, but all OK for the price you pay. The breakfast buffer has lots to offer, however overall the hotel feels functional more than anything, i.e. it lacks that little something special (which you would expect from a four-five stars hotel) - but that's Ok if you're there to be outside, not to spend too long inside the hotel.
Finally don't get sold on the idea of the indoor pool: it's very tiny so you really wouldn't spend much time there.

I satyed for one night with my family in a twin room with two double beds here. Recieved a good offer from the booking site that included free breakfast.

Finding the car access to the hotel was a nightmare for someone like me who lives in regional victoria. GPS starts loosing the signal around the tall buildings in the CBD and there were numerous temparay 'no right turn" signs which did not make it any better. The Swanston street entrance did not allow cars so I had to go in circles for about 20 minutes in heavy traffic before I found the car access to the hotel which is at a side road. Probably the hotel and the booking sites should advise on this at the time of the booking.

I was toying with the idea of self parking after dropping my family at the hotel but by the time I reached the hotel I had enough of it and I jumped to the option of Valet parking at a cost of 35 AUD.

The reception was always busy and I had to wait in the queue for about 12-15 minutes for check in. There was only one person handling the check in which I thought was not adequate to cater to the clients of a hotel with 200 rooms

Hotel it self was good with clean rooms, comfortable beds, good ensuites, good water pressure etc. No complaints on cleanliness.

There were facilities for tea/coffee making , minibar was good but the bottled water cost 6 AUD per bottle which I thought a bit too expensive even allowing a reasonable profit margin for the hotel. Breakfast buffet was reasonable but not great....and I got free breakfast so I did not mind.

Hotel is in the Chinatown and there are a plenty of eating options around including a number of chinese, Vietnamese, thai food outlets as well as McDonalds and Subway.

If you use public transport this hotel can be a fantastic option. I did not use the pool, bar or other recreational facilities therefore unable to comment on them.

Dear amu2,

Thank you for your recent patronage and for your time to provide feedback.
I am sorry to read about the trouble you had to go through to access the hotel, indeed the access to the hotel could be quite confusing especially with some constructions going on at the moment. Generally we always have enough Front Desk staff, they must have been assisting other guests at the time. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to our Front Office Manager to ensure adequate team member maintained at all times.

Thank you again for your feedback & hopefully we can look forward to welcome you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

Alex Mihardja, Operational Project Manager

very excellent location downtow just among bars, restaurants, shops! BUT gym with spinning bike but without stationary bike, breakfast very poor in fruit variety, bathroom without bidet and bathtube very old and without flexible pipe: a shower box is absolutely needed for a 4 stars hotel
