“WONDERFUL HOTEL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

We stayed at the Swanston Hotel over the Christmas/New Year break, we couldn't have asked for better.
The location is great, you step out the onto the street straight to a tram stop, the malls are just around the corner, there are plenty of restaurants up and down the street. It is really great.
We had the most efficient and friendly check in and check out than we have ever had during our many domestic and overseas trips.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were great.
I booked breakfast at the time of booking our accommodation, which was in the restaurant, after looking at the menu we decided that we would rather go for the buffet breakfast, and it was definately excellent value for money. The only down side was that they weren't very good at tracking whom had ordered eggs and then delivering them to the correct table, but to be honest, it was no big deal, as there was such a good choice for a great start to the day.
The room was clean, as was the bathroom, and a reasonable size. A pretty standard size really.
When we visit Melbourne again, we will definately stay at the Swanston again, it is such a great place to stay and for Aussie prices, we thought it was real value for money.

Me and my Mother stayed at The Swanston Hotel, Grand Mercure last week while we were in Melbourne to watch the Australian Tennis Open. This Hotel has almost everything you want and need for a week long vacation in a expansive city. When we first arrived our room was booked on level 5 where the view was dreary and had no city view, we quickly called reception and they moved us up to the 13th floor which had a stunning view of the city. The room that we stayed in was a twin bedroom, the room didn't feel like it was small and we both had room to spread our luggage out. The Bathroom was clean and had basic needs like soap and shampoo.

However the rooms styling was old and the hot cold taps on the shower needed to be updated to more modern styling. The TV had many channels to keep ourselves entertained and the Beds were extremely comfortable with the Hotel supplying both high and low pillows. The Air Con provided a retreat from the sweltering heat and the window could also be opened to let in fresh air. The only thing the Hotel faulted on was cleaning however me spilling chocolate on the bed sheets is hardly their fault however it would've been better if the staff changed the bed sheets when they saw the stain instead of leaving it till sheet change day.

What made this Hotel better than other previous hotels we tried in Melbourne was the location. It seemed to be a maximum of 10min away from anything you needed. It is within a couple minutes walk of Chinatown, the Greek precinct, federation square and major shopping malls like David Jones. The hotel is also linked with a great cafe and chocolate shop, if your heading off to the tennis I recommend you pick some of their rolls up to take for lunch as they're delicious and cheap. After we came back from a night session we ordered two pizzas from room service, both were average and did not have the basil specified on the menu, we realized later however that it was a stupid idea to order from room service as their were amazing restaurants were a stones throw away.

Overall we had a wonderful time and will definitely book with the Swanston Hotel next year.

The concierge knew noting about an iPad. The Wifi was very slow. I eventually had to get a PIN Number to get it to work. These people are the front of your hotel. Keep the front of your hotel clean not having a tramp sitting their all day.

Nice big rooms with excellant service offered. Very comfortable & cozy bed with brilliant city view from the room (we stayed on the 10th floor). Conveniently located in the heart of the city, which was an added advantage as closer to the shopping, eating, entertainment hubs.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have a nice city view

Grand Mercure Swanston hotel, i think its the best choice for first visitor or business trip, the room is clean and quite comfrotable, small but value for money. The lobby is nice and huge, the most important thing is easy to acces to any where, by walking or taking tram just by few steps.

Shooping centers, Asean restourant or western are beside the hotel, i strongly suggest for the visitor to stay here

I love Melbourne and i love grand mercure swanston hotel ;)

Room Tip: So far all floor are fine

I recently stayed at The Swanston Hotel Grand Mercure for two nights and found it yet again well priced and well located in Swanston Street in the centre of the retail area of the Melbourne CBD. I had a room on the 12th floor on the side of the building, and pleasingly it was quiet and spacious. The restaurant on the 1st floor served a very good and ample buffet breakfast for $A15.00, which I can throughly recommend.
However, for the first time I had dinner in the restaurant that evening and found the menu well above my expectations for a medium range CBD hotel - I had a slow roasted lamb shoulder matched with a good red wine (reasonably priced for a city venue) which was excellent.
Upon my departure for the airport for a very early flight, the reception desk was efficient, and a staff member kindly assisted me with my luggage to the taxi rank adjacent to the hotel.
Future visits on business to Melbourne will see me again staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper floors on the side of the building for a guaranteed quiet sleep.
