“VERY GOOD...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights in dec 2011.Must say really good location though the first look can be lthat the hotel looks small but its decently sized. We were upgraded to a nice big room on the higher floor since we were on honeymoon. The room was really good with a seperate living area.Overall a thumsup for the hotel as everything is quite closeby and the service is also really good.Would recommend it to everyone coming to melbourne.

Room Tip: Choose a room on higher floors and if possible ask for free upgrades.

Great location in downtown Melbourne. Bit old place with obvious need for renovation now. Still acceptable but maybe not totally worth the money.
Competitive and pretty nice breakfast.
Small pool. Just enough to refresh during hot day.
Our family room was pretty dark with view in a back yard and food smell.
Friendly staff.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms with view in the back yard.

Had a wonderful trip for Xmas 2011 to Swanston Hotel Melbourne- for family with teenagers -great location, rooms were fine - perhaps only improvement next visit would be rooms with a kitchenette ??? also found room service to be a little limited, but perhaps this was due to public holidays.

The squeezy car access/valet access and remote parking was a hassle and frustrating. However, the service of the valet and check in staff was efficient and friendly.
The room was clean and well presented, however it smelt of cigarettes despite being a non smoking room. The TV (or remote) did not work.
The restaurant's food and service was a bit hit and miss. It was disappointing to have a 1.5% fee put on any credit card transaction within the restaurant or hotel.
The service at the Hotel's cafe (Soul Cafe) for breakfast, was poor.

We stayed at The Swanston Hotel for 5 nights between Christmas and New Year in an Executive Suite. The room was spacious with a separate lounge and bedroom. The decor was slightly dated and could use a refresh but was neat and tidy and in good condition. The king size bed was good however had a very firm matress. The lounge area had a large flat screen tv and blu-ray player. The bathroom fixtures were old however were still in reasonable condition. There was a full length mirror in the hallway as well as a large mirror in the bedroom which was useful. The room also had a microwave and kettle and some plates and cutlery. We ordered dessert from the room service menu one night and would not recommend it, the cake we ordered was very dry and dissapointing. We attempted to use the wifi as well but the night we wished to use it the service wasn't working. We rang reception and they quickly offered us a refund of the charge which was appreciated however upon check out the charge had remained on our account and we had to remind them that it was to be reversed. All reception staff and valet parking team were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is perfectly located and is within short walking distance to Chinatown and the Bourke Street Mall. There is also a tram stop approx 2 minute walk from the main entrance which makes travelling around the city very easy.
