“Good Place to stay at China Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2013

Stayed 4 nights last month in this property. Friendly front office staff. As we alighted the taxi, the staff came out to welcome us and assist with the luggage. Since we were early, rooms were not ready. However, by the time when we returned after a coffee across the street, they made one out of two rooms ready. Tram stops and bus stops are just few minutes across the road. Being in china town area, there were plenty of restaurant, mainly asian origin, around for dine and drink.

Rooms are pretty clean but not big in size as per Australian standard. May be big enough for European standards. Bathrooms were neat. Clean linen and towels were provided. Hot and cold water with full pressure gives you relaxing bath. Best of all is free wifi and internet connection throughout the stay without much hick ups.

Breakfast was very basic. So we had breakfast from hotel only first day. They have a small bar above the restaurant but service there was pathetic. The gentle man was not welcoming and looked very new and totally unfamiliar with his work. Though hotel is in prime location, it’s not in the main road. So on a rainy day we waited more than 45 minutes for a taxi but didn’t get one and had to walk to the main road which is not very enjoyable when in formal dress for business meetings. Though hotel reception tried to book taxi but no taxis were available to come to the hotel.

Over all I would give three star for this property and would recommend this property for the price paid.

Dear Prasad P,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review.

I'm pleased to read that you found our front office staff friendly and helpful and that they were able to get you in to one of your rooms earlier than our check in time. I'm glad to read that you appreciated the use of the free wi-fi and found it to be of reasonable speed and easy to use.

I apologise if you found the breakfast in the restaurant very basic, this is unfortunate as we regularly get reviews on how great are breakfasts are. I would also like to apologise for the inconvenience you experienced with the taxi's, I do hope you were still able to get to your meetings on time.

Once again I would like to thank you for taking the time to post a review and I hope we can welcome you back to the Crossley on your next trip to Melbourne.

Regards,

Melissa Terminelli

“Great location in a fun part of Melbourne”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

Stayed at The Crossley during an unseasonal heatwave in Melbourne. This hotel is in a great location & central to Chinatown & the Theatre district. Incredibly quiet--no traffic noise, trains trams or sirens so that was a plus. As the other reviews had stated the hotel is clean & the staff are adequate----though could do with a little enthusiasm. We came back to our room after a night out for dinner & fired up the airconditioning. Perhaps an overload on the system due to the warm weather but the airconditioning couldn't drop the room temperature any more than 2 degrees----the room was stuffy & uncomfortable---infact the whole hotel was hot & stuffy except for the lobby. Dollar wise its value for money but really to rate they need an upgrade on the A/C. No money spent on the towells, they were pretty ordinary also. It really is only about adding 5% & this hotel could be a 3 star option.

Room Tip: Perhaps the lower floors were cooler

“Close to Her Majesty's - wonderful all round”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

My Mum and I stayed at the Crossley whilst in town to see Chitty Chitty Beng Bang at 'Her Majesty's Theatre".
The theatre is visible from the hotel, couldn't have much closer.
Staff were all excellent and helpful, particularly the doorman of the hotel's restaurant 'Fish Dish'. He spoke to us as we headed home from shopping (also very close to shopping mall) and commented he'd reserve a table for us later. He then remembered us when we headed back and welcomed us with a huge smile. Seeing the Paella cooking in the window certainly drew in many more passers by - and it was sensational.
We headed back there for breakfast, also lovely warm welcoming staff and a great spread of breaky treats.
Valet parking, comfortable beds, lots of pillows, very quiet and black out curtains.
Definitely recommended and we'll be back.

“Great small hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

2 nights - standard room early march 2013.

Good location towards the east end of the CBD rectangle. Lots of bars restaurants around within walking distance. China town and Greek Precincts at your doorstep. Free city circle tram around the corner which will take you around town. A good 15min walk to southbank from hotel.

The room is reasonable sized with good air conditioning system. Has a desk, TV (standard free to air with additional four movie channels), fridge, tea/coffee facilities and regular toiletries. Complementary wifi with reasonable surfing speed. There is a business centre and dining facilities which I did not use. They do not have a gym but have an agreement with a nearby one for a reasonable fee. The decor is getting a little tired, but still reasonable.

Front desk staff were extremely courteous and helpful. A special mention to Kenny who was always smiling and helped us book airbus return transfers without fuss.

Only small downside is the rubbish truck comes early in the morning around 6-7am, but this is out of the control of the hotel. Overall excellent 4 star hotel in its category
