We tried the Adelphi as we love staying on Flinders Lane or thereabouts. The room rate was higher than what I would usually pay, but it was a special weekend, so we went for it. And the Adelphi looked incredible.
On arrival the staff were fantastic, I couldn't fault them. It was excellent service.
However, everything else was a let-down. Nicely styled rooms with free lollies doesn't make up for the price tag. And it just wasn't that nice. I could have got something for much less, with a view and more room. Our view was revolting for what we paid - it overlooked the laneway with rubbish bins, and a noisy queue waiting to use the rooftop swimming pool. (We couldn't get to it as it was full so don't let this be the deciding factor for your stay as they open it to the public on the weekend.) There are cool laneways, and then there was this one.
The 'uniqueness' of this hotel, doesn't justify the price tag.
The thing that disappointed me the most was that I emailed the Hotel to double-check the room rate as I genuinely thought there was a mistake, and they had given us the wrong room. They never replied. Then I was sent an email asking for feedback - I sent the same email. Over one-month later, no reply.
I won't be going back, or recommending the Adelphi. Melbourne is full of competitively-priced hotels with lots of character and creature comforts!
