Based on Trip Advisor and word of mouth from a few friends we decided to try Adelphi, and we weren't disappointed.
We booked directly through the hotel, and Lance was great over the phone, assisting us with every question we had and even integrating a joke about us Sandgropers (Perth people).
On arrival we were greeted by an art gallery, a wire horse drawing a reception desk carriage through the lobby. After a plane delay and fair few hours in transit the complimentary beverages to help us relax and settle into holiday mode were greatly appreciated!
A Plush King was our room of choice, generous floorspace, didn't feel cramped, and had an interesting industrial theme inside the bathroom, think stainless steel and tempered glass walls.
To be honest, we weren't looking for luxury appointments in a room we would never want to leave. Melbourne is all about exploring the city after all. The room is no Intercontinental, having said that Lance the manager did have a part in the Intercon design as well. It was still luxury, just in it's own Melbourne boutique kind of way.
Finally the staff. Prue, Lance and all of the front desk staff are amazing. Full of knowledge and helpful advice, even happy to take some time out of their work just to talk. It's a personalised touch that can be somewhat lacking these days, so it was refreshing to experience it again.
If you're looking for the truly Melbourne experience, the Adelphi is for you!
