Owner description: The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It will also host the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

We were lucky enough to be here on an open day. Got the opportunity to have a kick in the field and a good look around. Pretty spectacular

“MCG Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2014 NEW

A comprehensive tour with a informative guide. You need to allow a few hours to take in everything at the museum. Well worth the money.

“A visit to the MCG is a must!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2014 NEW

I have been lucky enough to attend sporting events at the MCG 200 times or so over my life. Visiting this venue, whether you are in Melbourne during our AFL season, April to September, or to see some cricket in our summer, is an absolute must. Otherwise, if there mid week, aim for a tour of the MCG and our National Sport Museum. A lovely walk from our city centre along Birrarung Marr or through other beautiful gardens, or you can even catch a tram. Rod Laver Arena, (Australian Open tennis) is close by.

“Do not try visit on Sundays, it's CLOSED”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2014 NEW

My friend and I made an effort to visit the mcg last Sunday only to find the whole place closed, we were both unimpressed as not everyone likes shopping and this was our boys day off. so make sure you check what days this joint is open if you are thinking of visiting.

MCG5, Public Relations Manager at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), responded to this review, 3 days ago
Thank you for the feedback and sharing your disappointment about being unable to take an MCG Tour last Sunday. Unfortunately, that particular day was the one day of the year where the entire stadium was scheduled for closure due to maintenance of the electrical systems. While we did take steps to publicise this within our own channels, your experience suggests we need to better highlight this in future, particularly with our tourism/visitor partners, to prevent scenarios such as the one you faced last Sunday. To clarify, the MCG Tour and National Sports Museum are open on all non-match days all year round, except for Christmas Day, Good Friday, Melbourne Cup Day and this one-off electrical maintenance day. We hope you get the opportunity to visit us again soon.
