The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It will also host the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

“In the shade on boxing day at the MCG”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

My wife and I flew down to Melbourne and went to the cricket on boxing day and as I tend to get sunburnt fairly easily I was a bit concerned about we were going to sit.

We were seated in M50 row AA and thankfully was in the shade all day, it was however a bit chilly with a bit of wind.

I would say any row from about row X backwoods in M50 remained in the shade all day.

Great view and the Sri Lankans were all out before tea, can't ask for more!

So if you're like me and not able to sit out in the sun all day but still want to experience a boxing day at the MCG, there are places where you can sit and not be in the sun all day.

Its the Mecca for Football fans throughout Australia and Cricket fans throughout the world. It was our first Olympic Games Arena. IT is used by many other groups and artisans.

“Knowledgable Tour Guide- makes it worth a trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012

We had a lovely tour guide who has been a member for life.

He knew lots of little fun facts and figures. It was great to walk on the grounds but also see what the members area looked like. Amazing facilities for members.

I'm not a huge footy person but it makes me want to do a trip to see a match next year.

Girls you'll be surprised.

“MCG Tour and National Sports Museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

A must for every sports fan out there. My sports mad husband could have spent hours in the museum had we not have to catch a plane. The tour was great going in lots of areas you otherwise wouldn't be able to and so much history to absorb.

“Best... sports ground... ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

Have been to the G many times for both Aussie Rules and cricket and have to say its one of the best days out you can have watching sport. Even sitting up in the top tier gives you a terrific view of the entire stadium. Would recommend to anyone who is a fan of sport... and even to those that aren't!
