“A lovely place to visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

The National Gallery has many beautiful works of art which are well displayed including lots of areas for visitors to sit and enjoy. The curators were helpful with some being proactive to point things out for people to observe. The shop has lots of nice gifts and the restaurant is a must, particularly if you have time for a traditional afternoon tea.

“Surprising”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

We chose to do a tour with one of the volunteer guides. She was very knowledgeable and interesting which made us appreciate the artwork and especiallly the venue. We were most impressed with the ceiling made of glass.
What a great way to spend an afternoon in Melbourne

“A Melbourne must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2013

One of the oldest galleries of art in Australia, the NGV is an unmissable attraction featuring striking design, many quality restaurants, a huge and diverse selection of art from around the globe, a great shop and regularly changing temporary exhibits that actively seek to engage with those who may not consider themselves art lovers. A recent visit took in a temporary exhibit of photographer Thomas Demand's works (where he creates lifelike scenes from paper), costumes from the Victorian Ballet, several multimedia exhibits, brilliant and challenging contemporary works from the rising art scene in Indonesia and a selection of collectable sneakers & high tops. Also worth viewing is the collection of designer furniture, the breathtaking great hall with its intricate stained glass ceiling, the 'water wall' at the NGVs entrance and the outdoors sculpture garden. Whether a visitor or local, there's always something to see at the NGV.

“Good collection of Eastern and Western Art”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

Varied galleries with lots of different styles of art from around the world. Also a few with pottery etc (not really my interest). The building itself is worth seeing with its waterfall down the outside and lovely garden out back. Some great areas inside just for sitting too. Bit confusing to find your way around though!
