“Good Day Out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Went with 3 friends (all aged 25 - 30) and had a great day. Well laid out, everything really comes off a centre point, the layout is fairly flat, easy walking. It was a reasonably hot day but there was a decent amount of shade from the trees, and some rest areas.

There is plenty of grass area for picnic, which we didn't do, but if I went again for a full day I would make the effect to pack a picnic, the food we had was pretty simple cafe stuff, and at classic Zoo prices, but if you expect anything else at attractions like this then you must be deluded.

Like a lot of Zoos, the animals never want to come up close and say G'day, but there was enough action to keep us pretty happy and talkative about what we seen. The "rolling" orang-utan's were very funny, and the Seal show was great too. Also, hang around the Lion's area for a while, hearing them roar, which happened a few times, was absolutely incredible! Slightly frightening, we heard it as we were walking there, and we practically ran as we thought they must be fighting! But nope, just regular ol' roaring!

Wish they would put up signs if an enclosure is empty though, its frustrating to search for something and not being able to find it.

Also, Meer Cats, omg, cutest ever!

“day at the zoo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Well laid out zoo - be prepared for plenty of walking in the heat. Animals very docile due to heat. Plenty of eateries and good range of foods available - but a bit pricey!!!!

“Been lots of times”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Theres always something on at the zoo and I have never been and not seen lots of animals which can happen. I have been to many zoos across the world including San Diego zoo and honestly believe that Melbourne Zoo is up there as one of the better zoos. There seems to be more shows and feedings than on offer at other places.

“Always enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

We try to visit annually to see our favourite exhibits and check out the newer ones. Easy to get around as mostly flat, volunteer zoo guides available for booking or just roaming the grounds, not bad toilet facilities and some lawn areas for sitting and picnicking. Drinks and food available at a couple of locations
