I booked through Hotels.com a standard room for my family of 5. We had hired a car and parking under the hotel was charged at $22 per day on arrival. For the $451 we paid for 2 nights, it was like stepping into a youth hostel room. The flooring was tiled throughout the whole room. Upon entry into the room there was a basin at the door. The double bed and one single were in the first room as was the TV. A narrow hall passed the bathroom, which was a box with a shower and toilet and the room with two singles was in the back room, along with a mini fridge, kettle, tea and coffee and a table with two chairs. This room could clearly be better planned. It was just awful!! The room also looked out onto a roof where the air conditioning units (I think) were located. My husband went and spoke to the manager in charge when the television started to go fuzzy and we were offered an upgrade to a two bedroom apartment which we had stayed in during 2006.
The charge of $100 was certainly worth the happier smiles from us all round. We entered into the room this contained two single beds with a rollaway added to the room for us. There was a lounge area with a television, walking through to the small kitchen area which had a microwave and a full sized fridge. The bathroom had a bathtub, great lighting and plentiful bathroom supplies. The last room was the main room and a television was in here. The room had a huge amount of tea bags, coffee and sugar which was great.
There is a Coles up Spencer St past the rail station, an IGA just across the road from the hotel although it is small and expensive. There is also a Woolworths upstairs in the railway station. This hotel is considered the ‘high end’ of town however I don’t think the rooms are value for money. They are conveniently located within the city and we walked most places.
The staff were very helpful and friendly and the manager when we spoke to was fantastic in providing a solution, Housekeeping staff who came to make up the rollaway were lovely and also filled us in on directions. The staff were certainly some of the most friendly hotel staff I have ever encountered.
I honestly don’t know I would choose to stay here a third time and this is mainly due to the price. Location is a massive plus for this establishment, however I don’t recommend booking a standard aka ‘budget’ room.
