“What happened to the doona???”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

It's an old hotel on a busy noisy road, but had a makeover recently. The rooms look a bit stark, but they are equipped with all the essentials. However, the doona situation was bizarre. It appears as if a single bed doona was put into a double bed doona cover lengthways. This meant, pulling the doona up to chin level left your feet without doona cover, and vice versa. Mentioned this to the very young hip receptionist on check out, but she just didn't seem to understand what I was saying.
Ate in the restaurant - food was OK, but nothing special. Very limited menu, and lots of lonely businessmen sitting by themselves which is a bit sad for the dining experience.
It's close to trams that will get you into the city fast. Doors banging in the corridors all night is very annoying.

1) This hotel is located at least 10 minutes cab/tram far from lygon street and 20 minutes cab/tram far from the CBD. Around the hotel there's nothing but a park in front of the road..great for jogging...ONLY for jogging...if you don't get killed crossing the 8 lanes ...
2) The customer service is absolutely unfriendly and cold, it is like they are making you a favour to be there.
3) The room's walls are made of paper because you can hear everything...seriously everything...every shutting door, every walking person by, everything...I did not have one restful night....so yea the area is quiet....but the drama comes from the inside
4) The room is ok for a 3 stars , certainly not for a 4. tv and shower werent working properly....

We stayed here when it initially opened and were very satisfied with our experience. It was during the summer and the ability to individually set the air-con was great. Quality of rooms for the price was excellent in those early days. I have just come back from staying and it was still good for value but a little tired looking. Beds are relatively comfortable. Most annoying was the shower which sprayed over everything in the bathroom. Rooms are much more airy and larger than more expensive hotels and we appreciated the space. TV is old and a pain to use. Having our room serviced each day was variable, sometimes it was well done and others not so. I would have liked them to vacuum the room at least once during our week long stay. I would recommend to ask for room off the enclosed corridor in winter as I imagine walking along the veranda to your room would be very chilly and ask for a room on pool side to avoid noise from the main road outside. We had some andproblems with using the pay movielink pay per view channel system which didn't work. Phoning the reception and dealing with "Mel" was frustrating as it was obvious she couldn't be bothered and there was a bit of sighing on her part when we requested assistance. Ringing back and speaking to Luke (manager) was a completely different experience - very helpful and professional and he sorted it out quickly. The hotel is located 200 m from Sydney road (supermarket, lots of restaurants etc) tram stop is right out front. $10 taxi to the city. Vibe is a good option if you would rather spend your $$ on restaurants and sightseeing.

Great value (at $110 only) for this very nice, refurbished hotel in a very good position opposite Princes Park, near the Zoo, close to Lygon St and of course Brunetti cafe and therefore the city. The room , while not huge, had been optimally laid out to give a spacious feel and the large shower was welcoming first thing and was an extremely comfortable room with great fittings and very nice bathroom and modern air con.
It is a real must to visit Brunetti Cafe (near cnr. Lygon and Faraday St.'s) with its amazing cakes/pastries (all made on premises) brilliant coffee and great food - an experience!! It's known as the premier cafe in Australia.
Noise travelled into room a bit from nearby spa and noisy suitcases on rough slate pavement

Take your ear plugs when staying at this hotel, the road noise was very loud and you can hear conversations from adjoining rooms.
The rooms are quite clean, but the towels are thread bare with bits hanging from them.
From the moment you walk into the hotel, you notice the mat they put over the cracked tiles. The staff were attentive. This hotel needs major work, sound proofing the rooms
On the upside, the bed was comfortable, but the use of pillow shaped red suede cushions that must end up on the floor, then back on the bed leaning against the pillows that your head is going to sleep on is grouse.

The Vibe Hotel is very modern, stylish and spacious. I was travelling with a friend and we both thought the room was great. It was a standard room but actually nicer than some so called executive rooms I have stayed in at other hotels. The location of the hotel is good if you would like to visit the Queen Victoria market as it is a short walk away. The other good thing is the tram stop is a minute walk away for easy access pretty much anywhere in the city.
