Was stuck for options - meant to be travelling to Sydney for a conference and was cancelled last minute - so i looked up wotif for accommodation. Everything was booked out! Had spent my last 2 nights in Melbourne at The Mint on St.Klida road ($120 per night) and frequently stay at The Blackman (Art Series) if i can get a reasonable price. Both not available. The one of few options was the vibe carlton. Arrived at 7:30pm - nice person on check-in and no issues. Arrived at the room and it isn't a great first impression. Just felt old and the bathroom even older. I'm not sure if there are better rooms, but this one (229) was not too good. It didn't seem to have been renovated for some time. Pillows are not great, bed felt cheap. Probably the biggest issue was noise. Not from traffic, but from the rooms next door and above. I could hear foot steps above. I was woken by people leaving in the morning with their suitcases bumping along the path. The most redeeming feature are all the staff that were friendly and helpful. I have given 3/5 due to staff and it is reasonable cheap ($129 pn). Although comparing to the other hotels i stay in, it doesn't compare at all (other than service).
