“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2010

Budget hotel, very good location and good value for money, I didn't have any great expectations and wasn't let down. Love Melbourne and this place is in the centre. Slept well and had good breakfast.

Nothing worked and the staff didn't know why. Parking is a nightmare as nearest parking station is 300 metres away, so you have to trundle your luggage through the city streets to reach the lobby. Not good when you are wearing a suit and it's raining. The internal phones didn't work properly, dialed numbers repeatedly and got nothing. The wireless internet was very poor; the cable internet was hardly better but at least it worked. However no LAN cable was in the room and staff did not have any spare, and didn't really care anyway, I was forced to take another cable from a vacated room being cleaned. Just hopeless. Due to the central location it might be OK for a city shopping holiday, but avoid it for business.

This hotel is in an excellent location for shopping, catching trams etc. The lobby is tiny and very ordinary and doesn't give a good impression of the hotel. However, the room I had, although very small, and I wouldn't like to have two people in it, was well set out and contained everything one would need for a short stay. It has recently been refurbished and the only thing lacking was a bedside lamp. The continental breakfast was perfectly adequate.

Staying at the Causeway Inn on the Mall really should be determined by your traveling situation and style.

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the last four years. My purpose in visiting Melbourne each time has been to shop, experience some night life (usually the Melbourne Comedy Festival) and catch up with friends and family. For someone that flies to Melbourne and is happy to use public transport while there, this hotel is perfect. You literally walk out the door into the city where you have shops, cafes, restaurants, theaters, and a tram stop or quick walk to Victoria Station.

The rooms are certainly not spacious, but are always clean and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast has a very good selection, but no hot food (something that has never bothered me). There are no fantastic views from any of the rooms, but they are always quiet which I think is a better compromise. The front desk staff are always friendly and eager to assist with directions, etc.

Ultimately, the price is good for what you get, which means more money to spend at he shops!

We were surprised to find the Causeway Inn on the Mall was better than we were expecting. The location is fantastic being right on the Mall with easy access to public transport (Trams and Trains). Our room was next to the lift but was very quite with no problems getting a good nights sleep. The complimentary breakfast was a welcome start to the next day with fruit juices, fresh fruit, cereals, croissants, various sliced bread for toasting and coffee. We would stay again.

Stayed at the Causeway Inn on the Mall again, keep going to this hotel as it is situated in the centre of Melbourne city.

The room I had this time was abit small but suitable.

Also includes breakfast and the newspaper every day.

Breakfast has a great selection of cerials, milk including lite and soy, warm croissants, fresh fruit, toast, tea and coffee.

Also walking distance to many great places and also walking distance to the train and bus station on flinders street, where the airport bus is located at.

Do not confuse it with the other 2 Causways. There are 3 in total.

The shock of the alley way was the first of many shocks with this hotel. The staff are rude and need to go to 1o1 of customer service. The rooms were dirty and the beds are not comfortable. We end up checking out and going to a different hotel. Don't waste your money on this place.
