“Very pleasant hotel and super polite staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Stayed at this hotel for a little over a week. The location is very good, most of the rooms are towards the canal (Yarra river). In walking distance from the Melbourne business district, china town, restaurants, shops. An Outlet center in the Hilton in front. Also 2 minutes from the free tramway that takes you around the city (line 35).
Hotel is clean and not smelly. Rooms are quite spacious. They also have a gym and an outdoor heated pool. Breakfast is always the same, but we had enough choice for 10 days and didn't get bored with food. It's a bit pricey (25$ per breakfast), but in that area everything is well above average priced.
The staff is very polite and will do pretty much anything that you ask (call a cab, call another hotel, tell you where to go in the city to discover, etc.)
You can rent a bike (2.50$/day or 8$/week) which is 2 minutes walking distance from the hotel (towards the white mini-bridge). Then you ride around the city to discover it. If you return the bike in less than 30 minutes, you don't pay any extra. There are bike stops around the city and as far as the beach.
We liked Australia and will be coming back soon.

Room Tip: Get the highest floor, or close to it, as there is an open-terrasse bar downstairs, which is quite n...

For a fair priced business hotel it's not a bad option. Decent location for conventions, south bank or if your business is more towards Port Melbourne.
Overall the hotel feels like it needs a refurb - fittings are aged, curtains are drab, paint is flaking. Access to the hotel is strange - if the you approach from the street level (as opposed to a taxi dropping you on the driveway ramp) it is not immediately apparent as to where the the entrance is. Even when inside the hotel, after checking in, access to the rooms is via an escalator and then a strange short walk to a round elevator foyer. Pool area felt isolated.
Staff are friendly and service was prompt.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view of the river

Great value hotel across the road from Crown Casino. Definitely recommend paying the small additional fee to upgrade to a river view room which gives you an uninterrupted view down the Yarra! Clean rooms although the bathroom is a little dated. Only a five minute walk to Bourke Street Mall and two minutes across the bridge at the hotel entry to the casino.

Having read some reviews I had a few concerns. However, this was a perfect hotel for my 2 week trip.

Staff: Great, polite, happy to help.

Room Service: A better menu than in a lot of hotels, the food arrived faster than promised and was always hot and tasty. No cardboard burgers! The fish and chips were crisp and hot with plenty of Tartare sauce. The seasonal choices were good too (the menu changed while I was here).

Breakfast: Full Engish with all the trimmings, Americans will be happy as they have your crispy bacon too! Very occasionally when busy some items were missing but the staff were quick to replenish.

Decor: OK.. it needs a bit of a refresh but certainly not scruffy.

Sleep: Good sound and light proofing, comfortable bed very quiet air conditioning.

Bathroom: Decor a bit tired, no natural light, shower could have a little more pressure but perfectly usable.

Internet: Basic internet was free, high speed was extra. Wired and wireless available and perfectly serviceable (I could stream movies from Google Play with no problems).

Location: Handy for docklands, cabs usually right outside if needed and a very short walk to a tram stop but its only 30 minutes walk to the top end of the CBD (Parliament). The hotel is perfectly located for the Exhibition Centre and the Crown Entertainment complex the other side of the river.

Definitely somewhere I would stay again.

This was my first stay at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne and I was there for 6 nights while attending a convention at the Convention Center. The hotel is well maintained and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The location to the convention center is perfect as it’s just across the bridge and only a short walk.

I included breakfast with my rate and it was a fairly good start to the morning with a chef preparing fresh eggs and a large hot and cold buffet including juices, coffee, fruit and vegetables.

The room was comfortable and I enjoyed my stay. The hotel is very “green” being energy and water efficient but that was certainly noticed the most when taking a shower. The water pressure and volume of water is so low/slow that it would take an average person an additional 5-7 minutes to take a shower. The shower head uses the most minimal amount of water and pressure possible.

Other than the shower, the hotel was comfortable and I would consider staying here again if I needed to be next to the convention center. It rained several days during my trip and there was a convenient covered walkway over the bridge to the convention center as well.
