“Going the extra mile”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2012

As a physical hotel, the Crowne Plaza is a modern facility directly across the river from the Crown casino complex and convention center. Just for physical location, amenities, design, and room layout it would rate highly.

The difference with the Crowne Plaza Melbourne, and what gets it an excellent rating, is its staff. Universally, from the concierge to the waiters to the front desk personnel, you get professional and knowledgable personnel willing and able to provide you with whatever assistance you need whenever you need it.

One person in particular, Holly Wilkins at the front desk, deserves particular kudos. Upon our arrival during our check-in Ms. Wilkins asked us how we were enjoying our stay so far. As part of our response, we mentioned that we were there for our anniversary and prior to my starting a new job. Shortly after arriving at our room, we were not only delivered a bottle of complimentary champagne but were also handed a personal note from Ms. Wilkins congratulating us on our anniversary and new job along with the best wishes of the Crowne Plaza. Now THAT, folks, is what makes a hotel stand out from the pack.

From the Crowne Plaza it's very easy to get around Melbourne. You, of course, can walk along the river and have easy access to the casino, shops, and restaurants in that huge complex. You are also only a block away from the trolley/tram system from which you can reach virtually any spot in Melbourne. The Circle Line trolley (#35) is free, but we'd recommend that you purchase a daily or weekly ticket from the train station so that you can hop on and off of any of the trolleys and trams wherever and whenever you choose.

Room Tip: You can get a view of the water, convention center and casino from the top floors for a very reasona...

Very much enjoyed our stay at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne. The hotel upgraded us to the top floor with a beautiful view, which is especially stunning at night. The room was large and comfortable and even if hotel shows some signs of aging, the location definitely compensates for it. Every hour on the hour in the evening there is a fire show outside on the promenade, which is directly cross the hotel. Overall great experience, the personnel was very friendly and helpful and self parking outside the hotel is also very reasonably priced at $13 a day.

Purchased 3 nights in early january 2012 on Wotif. Paid $186 a night for a standard room, valet parking and buffet breakfast each day. This was excellent value for money and I highly recommend this hotel. Staff were polite and ready to help. The valet parking men were very prompt. The room itself was clean and well maintained. the corridor to the room however did have a musty/wet smell but the room itself was fine. We were up on the 10th floor and we had a great view out over the bay (could see the Abel Tasman arriving and leaving). The aircon in the room actually worked and cleanliness was great. I didn't have any issues about walking around in bare feet in the room. Breakfast was very good - it had everything and catered for asian and american type breakfasts. The location of this hotel is excellent and we couldn't believe we got a great place at such a good price. Easy walk to everything in central Melbourne. The casino is right across the road and trams directly out the front of the hotel. I have recommended this hotel to friends and will be staying again.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher room for the great views out over the bay. Forget the city view, the bay view is m...

My wife and I spent four nights at this nice hotel. There is an extensive staff in the lobby, and their service is outstanding. The location on the river and across the bridge to the South Bank Promenade is excellent. Also, we particularly enjoyed the breakfast buffett, especially the omelet station. Overall, an excellent stay.

Stayed one night recently (NYE) and was pleasantly surprised by the standard of the hotel. Location is excellent, and we were lucky enough to receive a room with a Yarra view to see the midnight fireworks. Check in/Check out fast and efficient, and the rooms, although smallish, were lovely and modern. The bathroom a little old, but quite sufficient for 4 star. Other than breakfast we didn't dine at the restaurant, but the offerings at breakfast were great and of excellent standard. I always love an omelet station and pancakes, and both were offered. The hotel was very busy, but dishes were cleared quickly and service was efficient. Happy hour at the bar was good value, and very busy there too. All in all, a good 4 star hotel in a good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with Yarra River view

it was very hard adjusting to this hotel after coming from a night in crown towers. Im not sure if this is rated a 4 or 4 1/2 star hotel, but it definetley is a far cry from 5 star. The rooms were neat and simple, we had a view over the pool which was good cos we had hot weather, so we knew when people left the pool area, we would go down for a swim. The bathroom is a good size, but the bath is very small. the closet is also very narrow that it doesnt even fit the coathangers in properly. On each level in the elevator area there are lounge chairs situated at windows looking in 3 different directions. 1. the pool 2. the city 3. river/dfo area. We went up to the highest floor one night with a snack and a drink and sat overlooking the city for bout an hour, it was very relaxing.
Overall the room service is defenetly a must, the best part of the hotel. Very good quality food presented perfectly, and still piping hot when it arrived.

Room Tip: I would opt for a city view room if you are spending a lot of time in your hotel.

Stayed two nights in a King River view room. Bed was very comfortable, our room overlooked the Casino, towels were good, shampoo and conditioner weren't very good though. Valet and check in went extremely smoothly. Happy hour (two hours actually) was great fun. Location location location.
