It's not too far from Crown casino in Melbourne (within walking distance). The pool is outdoor , has gym and sauna. Room was upgraded to deluxe if you are a IHG club member + free internet for its member ( check website for details)

Stayed at this property on September 26 for 6 nights. It is centrally located near the train station. A short walk to the casino. One of the few hotels that would allow three family members to share a room paying a supplement. Work perfectly for us as we were out and about most of the time. Able to use the computer to check emails.

We have stayed at lots of IHG hotels.
This Holiday Inn is very well located, near the Spencer street station and trams going in every direction at your door.
Free wifi if you are elite IHG members and Breakfast was included in the tariff.
Breakfast was good, if chaotic and the rooms are average Holiday Inn, if a little tired.
If you have a car then parking is downtown expensive, $40 a day at the property and a little cheaper over the road.
Location is ver handy and tariff is competitive and the staff tried hard.

Room Tip: Higher the better and go for the pool view which is quieter than the street

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

I recently spent three nights here, as part of a ten-day trip around Australia. I picked this property mainly because of the convenient location to Southern Cross train station (I had a good view of it from my room) as well as to Southbank on the Yarra River. While I could have taken the Skybus from the Melbourne Airport to Southern Cross train station and had an easy, 500m (1/3 mile)/10 minute (tops) downhill walk to the hotel, I was lucky enough to have one of our local business partners pick me up at the airport.

I arrived at the hotel around 10:30am, and was fortunate they had a room ready that early in the day. I was on the 8th floor, the top floor, unfortunately right across from the elevators. While I was initially concerned, it proved to not be a problem.

The room was spacious, had a mini-fridge, safe, and floor-to-ceiling window. The first night I had to run the AC and found it to be very quiet and efficient. The king size bed was comfortable and the room’s lighting very good, with AC power, a lamp (with two USB charging ports), and several outlets at desk height. I appreciate when a hotel pays attention to these often-overlooked details.

There’s a small laundry room on the 2nd floor, and a small fitness center, sauna, and a modest sized outdoor pool on the 1st. It’s six AU$ to wash and dry a load of laundry, and not a bad deal considering how expensive Australia can be. Service it the bar and restaurant was friendly, and the bar has a nice corner counter to have a drink at and watch the cars and people go by. I had a Caesar salad one night, for $17.50 (AU$). A little pricy, but apparently not for Australia.

This was a very pleasant stay, and I’d come back again without hesitation.

Dear Steve_N_018

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our hotel. It is nice to hear that our team was able to get you into a room early and that you enjoyed your room located near the lifts. Many guests have the same concerns as your-self, regarding rooms opposite our lifts but we have put effort in to ensure that this does not cause our guests any disruption. I am glad that you appreciated the little details in your room as they do make a difference, and I hope we get to welcome you back again soon.

Kind Regards

Stayed here for 2 weeks, great location for my office, large room that had all the facilities we needed, friendly and helpful staff that always smiled as you past reception.

We arrived early in the morning and our travel agent had forgotten to book the room from the night before, instead of sending us away and asking us to come back in the afternoon, reception did some juggling and managed to get us into a room straight away, which after an overnight flight from Singapore was much appreciated.

The room was outside the lifts so I was worried about the noise, but we heard nothing through out the night and there is no 'pinging' from the lifts when they open on your floor. Actually, had really good nights sleep here, a kingsize bed with a firm mattress.

House keeping did a great job and the room was always spotless and everything topped up, the room had a fridge which had been emptied of mini bar things so you could actually keep your own things in there. The bathrooms are a bit tired, but everything was clean, and the amenities were good.

Yes the decor is nothing fancy and it is very much a functional hotel, but for the money we paid, it was a very good stay and we would certainly stay here again.

We didn't eat in the hotel, but there is an awesome cafe just back down Flinders Lane called Grain, which is really good.

Before I checked in to Holiday Inn on Flinders, I stayed at Holiday Inn Sydney. When compare the two, I prefer this property for a couple of reasons. The room is as spacious as the Sydney one but it appears a bit more classy and cleaner. It's true that bathroom is a let down because of its size and it's dated.

Staff is very friendly in this Holiday Inn and I was amazed that they were able to anticipate traveller's needs.

Location is good as it's just at the centre of the Melbourne business hub.

We stayed at this hotel over the AFL Grand Final weekend when it is nearly impossible to get a room anywhere in the Melbourne CBD. This hotel was also totally booked out, so it was naturally quite busy. However, despite this we had no problems with check in, or out and had no complaints at all. The hotel is only about 300 metres from the airport shuttle stop at the Southern Cross Station, from where a trip from Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport takes about 20 minutes and costs $17, compared to about $55 by taxi. In addition the hotel is also only about 100 metres from the City Circle tram stop, which is a free service and can be used to get to most places in the city, or connect to other tram and train services. Breakfasts were excellent with a station where eggs fried, poached or omelettes could be ordered to suit. Other hot food to go with these eggs was also plentiful. Of course there was also a vast range of cereals, fruits, juices, toasts and pasteries. Restaurant meals were also quite reasonable. The hotel is getting a bit dated, but the convenience to transport and the excellent meals, especially breakfasts made up for that. Staff were friendly and helpful and I would have no hestitation recommending this hotel, especially for anyone travelling to Melbourne to attend AFL footall games at either MGC, or Docklands Statiums.
