“Good location, easy night free parking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Stayed here for a few times for business, close to Casino (just 10 mins walk across). Free street park close to hotel after 10pm till 7am. 7/11 just around the corner. Wine store across the street.
Rooms okay and quite (as for rooms facing the side street or the swimming pool).

Last week I stayed a day and a night in Melbourne at the Holiday Inn Melbourne on Flinders.
What a great place to stay - position position position - on the edge of the city centre it is walking distance to anywhere and everywhere - trams run past the door - and Spencer St railway station and the direct Airport buses are an easy 2 minutes walk away.
The Hotel itself has very good clean and roomy rooms, a very good resturant and bar and everyone was very friendly.
If ever you visit Melbourne for business or holiday I would highly recommend you stay here - you wont regret it

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper choose a room not on the Spencer St side because of the trams (not too ba...

Whilst we had a friendly helpful welcome here there was something lacking-it hard to put a finger on it but there was a lack of any genuine personal touch.
Unfortunately there had been an error regarding our booking in that our Guest Loyalty status had not been processed (Hotel blamed the bookers)
Our initial room was adequate but the facilities were all tired & in need of refurbishment. We were later moved to another room (a suite at the front of the hotel) which was much better but still had that "overworked"appearance.
Location is good-across the road from the Southjern Cross station. Hotel is on Flinders LANE not on Flinders STREET-dont be fooled although there is not really much difference.
Restaurant facility adjoining-Scirroco offers breakfast & dinner opportunities.
It would have been nice to see a bottle of water being provided on a daily basis-this service appears to have disappeared as part of a new "Green" approach to reduce water consumption & plastic manufacture (or costs?)

Room Tip: Rooms on Flinders Lane will provide a view albeit limited.

Stayed with my girlfriends for a shopping vacation. The hotel is in a great location-. Two minute walk from Southern cross station, five minute walk to the crown casino and southbank. There's a tram stop 50mtrs down the road on Spencer st but you also have the trams a minutes walk away on either Collins or Flinders st. We had a standard double room which was adequate for the three of us. The bathroom was clean and the beds and pillows very comfy. Initially the room was step up for two people but this was rectified when we rang reception to advise them that a third person was staying and they provided us with extra towels and glasses . Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Would Definately consider staying here again.

Stayed on a Sunday night, clean room, comfy bed, welcoming staff. Its in a great location, short walk south from the Southern Cross railway station as well as the Skybus terminal in Spencer Street, so its a great if you're using public transport. Skybus is $17 one way to Tullamarine Airport, $28 two way (Adult). There's a Coles supermarket a bit further north along Spencer St near the Lonsdale St intersection. There's a small convenience store with liquor a short walk north as well. Only a 5 minute walk south to Crown Casino, lots of choices for food & entertainment including a Village cimema complex. Check in/check out were a breeze and the staff were very welcoming. If you need to get around don't forget to use the #35 - City Circle Free Tourist Tram. It travels in both directions along - Flinders Street - Harbour Esplanade - Docklands Drive - La Trobe Street - Victoria Street - Nicholson Street - Spring Street - Flinders Street about every 10-15 minutes.

In previous years I used to go past this hotel on the tram on the way to work. Always thought it would be a great hotel to stay in because of its location. It was a great choice to make for a girls night in the city. I was able to get parking opposite the hotel, meet my friend Southern Cross Station and then start exploring the city. The bed was very comfortable, the view great and the room very quiet. I did not hear any noise from the elevator or other rooms. Staff are friendly.
Would stay here again.

I stay here fairly regularly for business and the overall experience is quite good. It is relatively easy to get there by car and very easy by tram and train, the airport transfer bus also stops just up the road. Rooms are of a standard you would expect from a Holiday Inn with good beds and bathrooms.
I noticed on this trip that there is a significant difference in noise level between the rooms on the Spencer St side of the building and those facing Flinders Lane. There is a lot more noise from traffic, trams and trains on the Spencer St side. On this occasion I had a corner suite where the bedroom faced onto Spencer St and find the noise level quite high. Parking is a little expensive but probably consistent with other City Centre hotels. Restaurant is good for dinner and breakfast for a business traveller. If I was traveling for leisure there are a lot of eating options within a ten minute walk that would probably be more varied.
As with all Holiday Inns internet access is ridiculously expensive, would be good to see this policy change or see an option for Priority Club members that offered a better rate.
