“Cinema that feels like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

I've been here several times, and I really enjoy a cinema which feels different than those chain cinemas. I also love how they have array of non-mainstream movie, a movie that you might heard of highly praised but hard to find. I'm lucky to have chance watching "Cabin In The Woods" before it become quite popular, it is a gem from Josh Whedon.

Yet, sometimes it also cater for popular taste, I watched The Dark Knight Rises without having to stand up in long lines, and the best I only have to pay it for $6! Trully worth the prices.

So my tips is to come here on Monday ($6 rate before noon) and come a bit early since there is no seat number on your ticket so whoever comes first get to choose their seat. And after that you can always stroll through Lygon St for its cafe and food.

“Intimate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

This is the place to go to see an Art house movie. It is quiet and intimate. Great for a drink and a quick bite before the movie.
Small and friendly. I love going there. So much atmosphere.

“Good mix of mainstream and alternative movies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

The cinema facilities are great, with comfortable seating and a range of intimate to mid size cinemas. The selection of moves is good, with some mainstream features and other lesser known / interesting options from around the globe.

A recent addition is the option for in theatre drinks and dining, which can add to the experience (if you haven't already eaten somewhere on Lygon Street).

This is a great cinema, in a fantastic location which feels a little more civilised than the main stream mega movie complexes.

Sessions can fill up fast and seating is NOT allocated - so get in early to secure a good spot.

“Great arthouse cinema, excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

This place is a real institution. Brilliantly placed in the Italian part of Lygon Street and near Melbourne University. They offer a great selection of arthouse and the better of the blockbuster releases. They have super cheap tickets for movies starting before 4pm on Monday, and cheap (but more moderately so) after 4pm.
If you want the biggest screens go somewhere else, but it will always show more interesting cinema than big screen places.
