Usually not a fan of guided tours but these gentlemen where passionate about the museum & extremely interested in what we wanted to see & facilitated a fast forward tailored to our interests. Many thanks to the fantastic volunteers!!

“make time for sports history (but only if you are a fan)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

this is a good museum covering a range of local and international sports. There are wonderful artefacts on display with a good level of background information provided. Try to get out on to the sports ground - its a beautiful stadium and well worth the price of a ticket if a sporting event is on. the local sport is australian rules football. Locals will be happy to explain the rules to you. Men, women and children attend games and opposing teams' fans mix - there is a great atmosphere - games are on Friday nights and weekends from about March to the end of September.

“Must see for tourists.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

If you are to visit Melbourne and you are from the sub-continent, Pakistan, Sth Africa or Blighty, you must visit the M.C.G. and the sports museum and allow at least half a day. The cricket memorabilia is outstanding, items from the Bodyline series, 100 year old bats, baggy greens and Shane Warne. Don't like cricket.. how about items from the first modern Olympics up to London, swimming, tennis, soccer, A.F.L. (football ) a game that needs to be explained to everyone else in the world, athletics. In fact, name it, it's probably there and audio is available. If you are a sports nut, don't miss it.

“Much better than we thought it would be”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

We hadn't been sure about coming to this Melbourne museum for a long time, but we were glad we finally visited. There is a lot of different sports covered here and lots of memorabilia to see. Olympic medals, Cadel's bike, Cathy Freeman's running suit, etc, etc. It wasn't just seeing things in glass cases, there were movies to watch, sports to play, and always helpful staff to explain and encourage us to explore.

We didn't have time to tie the visit in with a tour of the MCG, we'll be back to do that as well.
