“Great value, modern but small all-suite hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2011

Our first reservation was a DISASTER: after checking us in at 8am after 29 hours in flights from Europe for the President's Cup match weekend from a booking made 3 weeks prior, we were told five and a half hours later that the room would not be available for us. I don't know how this can ever happen for a confirmed booking. We were offered an alternative, but unsatisfactory hotel. Needless to say, we had to pay for accommodation costing almost 100% more in a property we found acceptable.

By way of apology, the duty manager provided us with a voucher for free accommodation on premises to be used inside the next 3 months - which is the topic for this review:

We had a very pleasant stay at the Mint Rhapsody. It was a brand new all-suite apartment although some building works was still ongoing during out stay (Dec 1, 2011) - as impact hammers were working from 8am - nice sized bedroom although a bit claustrophobic for my liking, small bathroom, a small lounge space, dining space, balcony space and kitchenette. Note that while there is a tick in checkbox for all these spaces, there aren't very big.

Underground parking is available although not used by us, WiFi is also free and there is a nice cafe next door.

The property is located on St. Kilda Road, making access to the city easy via trams which run to Flinders Street and through to Swanston Street and to the heart of the city. I think this would be a great hotel to spend a romantic weekend in. We would definitely come back, but perhaps not as our first choice of hotels in Melbourne.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Mint Rhapsody for three nights from 28- to-30 Nov 2011, it is a brand new Hotel and the price we paid of $119, was definately good value, we liked the part grey cement ceiling, the pale blue decor is superb, but in time will probably become shabby, but lets hope not, the bed was heaven. We did not use the kitchen part of the room but with a dishwasher, full length refrigerator, bench top hotplate what more could one want, all dishes needed are supplied, the bathroom although not large was excellent, front of staff were very welcoming, they offered us an umbrella if it was needed.
Tram stop 26, being just outside the Hotel, trams we used from Melbourne Central were the 3, 3a, 5, and 6. We definately will be returning, but we do feel the cost per room will increase unfortunately.
Thanks Mint Rhapsody.

Room Tip: We had a second floor room on the side alongside a lane, it was very quiet and not far from the lift

spent the night here Sat 3rd Dec booked through wotif. arrived at reception to be greeted by a rude girl whom advised us that we had to pre-book car parking on the "internet" ... wotif
mentioned nothing about this. the room was small. smelt like plastic & was noisy. the balcony would be big enough to fit 1 person. we had a view of the offices across the lane. the room was next to the lift so noisy. street noise. fridge in the room going on & off all night noisy. pay movies $16.95. wont be back. I am looking forward to getting my bond back... said it should take 3 to 5 days... I wonder if this money is in a trust account or just earning the owners plenty of $$ through interest ???

Room Tip: don't be fooled by being upgraded to a studio .. I can't imagine how small a standard room i...

Noisy, claustrophobic rooms with overpowering odour and bleak outlook to concrete office block. But worse, they have "accidently" deducted an amount (equivalant to a nights' stay) from our credit card after taking the $200 security swipe, and we are now out of pocket until they process the refund (read: fix their mistake). Melbourne has a lot better accomodation choices.

Upon check in, the room was everything the photos on their website showed from the high satin chair to the clean kitchentte and even a nice cosy balcony.

Some of the earlier reviews mentioned about the 'unfinished ceiling. It was bare but smoothed grey cement to give accent to an otherwise very brightly finished room. It did not even perturb me when I slept on the very comfortable bed and not even the least bothersome.

Depending on the rotating staff, the service level varies. The one during the night shift, possibly a new immigrant, was downright unhelpful and curt when he was requested to help make a quick confirmation on the local phone line. In direct contrast, the staff on the day of my checkout, she could be the manager on duty was very quick to response to my plea to retrieve my clothes left in the washroom, while i was also hurrying to catch the shuttle to the airport. Kudos to her and the housekeeping.

Furthermore, the utensils in the kitchenette was plenty and useful to prepare a simple meal from scratch. A visitor was aso very impressed with the comfort of the room and was intrigued by the dishwasher just below the mcirowave oven. There are really more nice touches like the giant TV screen for all of you to venture, should you choose to stay there. To top it all, the security could not be better.

Thanks to the design, it was a great place to stay and entertain.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floors.

My partner and I stayed for two nights when we visited Melbourne for the tutankhamun exhibition and we loved it. The decor is totally us, chesterfield style couches and head boards in a uber modern style with black and white photography and super cool sculptures. The room was clean and tidy with a little kitchenette which was great, we didn't use it but now that we know it's there we'll definitely stay there again. There's a tram line right out front on St kilda road and chapel St shopping strip in a 10min walk away so we felt super centrally located between St kilda and the CBD, each being a 5min cab ride away. We will most definitely stay there again, the price per night was fabulous when u consider the hotels location and modern facilities, we were stoked with our choice to stat at the mint rhapsody!!

I booked a one bedroom apartment, but once I'd seen it changed down to a reasonably well fitted bedroom. The apartment was very gloomy, and on the side of the building looking out to an office block! Should succeed, reception was good and acted when requested. I had to ask for my room to be cleaned twice before I had an acceptable result. Simply making the bed was not what I considered room service!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking St Kilda Rd
