“Used to be great...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

This place used to be great, but since the change of ownership its gone downhill. I probably wouldn't bother anymore. Plenty of other great options around North Melbourne for a good feed.

“I wouldn't bother if I were you.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2013

If you're into relatively poor food for a fairly middle of the range price then this is your place. Of course you're unlikely to be wanting that, so I would suggest going elsewhere. Also the atmosphere is about as pleasant as hospital food court. If you're in North Melbourne and wanting breakfast I'd suggest Grigons and Orr (http://www.grigonsorr.com.au/menu.htm). You'll pay about the same price as Rubicon but the food is far better, as is the atmosphere.

“Hmmm.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Service is basic, so is the food. It's good for something quick and easy, but that's the extent of it!

“Big tone”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

Poor service and food and really disapointed
a group of us went there before a show at the comics lounge and waited 15 minutes for a drink and a further 10 minutes to get our order taken and this was after we told them we were going to show
well food was slow to come out and also cold.
safe to say not going back.

“Nice food ruined by the awful service!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

Booked for a group of three of us for a meal before a Fringe Festival show. We arrived on time, at 6:45 pm. The waiter came back 20 minutes later to take our order; he wanted us to order our meals before we even had a drink order! We convinced him we wanted a drink first and could he come back in 5 minutes for our meals order. He returned in 5 minutes and took our order. The drinks arrived after another 5 minutes passed, making it a total of 25 minutes seated before getting a drink! And the restaurant was not busy yet; only half the tables were filled. Our meals came out soon after but the soft drinks we ordered to accompany the food never arrived. The waiter never returned to our table, even after another 50 minutes had passed. I finally flagged him down and asked if it would be possible to get desserts ordered and delivered within the next half hour, as we had a 9:00 pm show (it was now 8:10 pm). The waiter said probably not as the kitchen was a bit under the pump right now. So we decided to leave and get coffees and desserts elsewhere, if possible. Then I had to wait nearly 10 minutes to pay the bill, to be honest we were very close to just walking out at this point. Having booked a table for 6:45 pm I didn't think it would be so difficult to get a main meal, dessert and coffee in 2 hours at a cafe/pizza restaurant on a Tuesday night! But for the staff at Rubicon, it was an impossible task. I won't eat there again.
