In a city where both fine dining and casual dining is virtually on-tap, finding something that is a little different, but special can be a challenge. Markov Pl is an excellent showcase of local Australian produce in a very stylish, yet relaxed environment.
The staff are all very helpful, calm and professional. Please do take their recommendations regarding the best way and portions to order. It may be a little confusing if trying to order a la carte, as your mind will default to think of the menu in terms of entree, starter, main and dessert. The food will come out continuously, and as the only vegetarian in a party of three, I was never without food in front of me.
Between three we ordered: zucchini flower, confit tomaato and mozzarella; zucchini, feta and dill fritters; beets, grains, yoghurt and dukkah; pork and pistachio terrine, honey pickled apply and onion jam; asparagus, crisp hens egg, radish and milk crumbs; cured Ocean Trout, potato, beetroot and fromage blanc and a dessert each (apple tart-tartin with vanilla ice cream and caramel and mango curd, passionfruit and coconut crumble). Total cost of the food was just over $122 for 3 people, and we all had a chance to taste everything we wanted to, and go back for a little more.
This is very local to where I live, and is a perfect venue for adults and those who appreciate quality over quantity. It was noticeable that it was mostly women dining the evening we were there - it's not a place for big hearty meat-loving diners.
Highly recommended for sharing - this is modern tapas style dining close to the city. Delicious flavours, and the aroma when we entered of an apple tarte-tartin had us from the first moment. All of the flavours were fresh and clean and the dishes light but we were quite satisfied at the end of the night with the inclusion of the dessert. The only thing I would not order again would be the beets with dukkah, but otherwise an excellent night out.
