“One of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We went there for a dinner with our baby, the food was excellent, fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned, a very clean place and baby friendly. The head chef (the owner) was very friendly, very understanding about baby, he didn't even hesitant to let us use his sofa to change the nappy and he took the dirty pampers from us and throw it away in his trash bin. On the way to the main door we passed the kitchen door and I can see that he manages to have a clean kitchen. Very recommended, I'll go there for my every trip to Melbourne.

Authentic Italian food, great ambiance and terrific service. We followed a Trip advisor recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be returning.

“Nice meal, great service !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013 via mobile

Had a nice meal at Scugnizzo. The chef must be the owner. He came out and have us some food plus a glass of water to try while we were waiting for friends. The meals were nice, the service was excellent. He also gave us a nice shot of some sort of sorbet after our meals.

“Wonderful restaurant in a weird location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

It was raining, cold and somewhat miserable and our hotel (the Ibis near the Southern Cross Terminal) was not in the best part of town. We were not expecting to find much in the way of decent restaurants close by. Then we stumbled on Scugnizzo in an alley off Little Bourke Street. What a delight! Excellent fresh bread started the meal. The menu was interesting, and the food we had was well prepared, served nicely, but the portions did seem smaller than what I expected. We can recommend the ravioli which was nicely done, but served warm, not hot. The waiter helped with the wine pairing...and then managed to knock over a glass - leading to a move to another table - and a free bottle and even better service than we had already enjoyed. We considered returning another night - the meal was that good, but we decided to take advantage of the nice weather and go farther afield. The night we were there there was only one other couple dining. With the quality of food and attentiveness of service, we would have expected more people. This restaurant deserves far better than two tables occupied for dinner.

“Oh what a find! Southern Italy here in Melbourne”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We were meeting a UK cousin overnighting in Melb whilst between flights and after much debate we gave Chinese a miss and decided on Italian which was conveniently located nearby. Upon arrival and without a booking we were warmly welcomed for a pre-dinner drink in a cosy corner where we could chat and catchup on all the news. During drinks a plate of surprises arrived and went well with our drinks. We started with an antipasto which was made up for 3 without even asking and it was simply sensational with lots of interesting tastes and textures.
Our mains were equally as good with a sensible wine list that comes with some experienced advice from the waiter. Then we we greeted by Carmine the owner chef who took time out to explain the menu and make our evening a very memorable dining experience. Rarely does customer service reach the standard we experienced at Scugnizzo. But go try it for your self - you too will want to tell others.
