Looking for lunch on a Sunday can be a difficult exercise. So very pleased to happen upon one of the few open restaurants in this Moonee Ponds
The Philhellene began its welcome with a blackboard out on the pavement inviting us in out of the cold to enjoy the warmth of a friendly Greek restaurant. Without a doubt this welcome carried into the restaurant were we were made to feel welcomed guests.
We ordered quickly as we noticed the place was expecting a huge crowd of party goers and experience tells me that often staff are over worked and often two people are forgotten about. Not in this case.!
We shared a reasonable priced platter of meats with a typical greek salad. The wine and food followed by coffee was promptly delivered to our table without fuss by the charming numerous staff. Indeed, the manager had numerous staff on to ensure all were looked after. By the time we left the restaurant it was full of greek Australians which indicated to me that the restaurant was recognized by the locals , a good sign.
The food was straight forward, no fuss, very wholesome and pleasant for a Sunday lunch.
We left after two coffees, and will certainly return to enjoy the welcome, the friendliness of this local greek provincial restaurant and the tasty food it dishes up in Moonee Ponds
